LOL. Misunderstood what you were asking! Because I like the flexibility it will offer me in terms of using them for both WDW stays, and the occasional cruise. Obviously, the biggest reason for direct is to own more RIV because having restricted points is not for me, but it will also be nice to have more for those times when we might want to cruise.No, Im asking why its enticing for you to buy points direct specifically for this cruise. I understand the ins and outs of the program.
Once the money is spent to buy direct, any cruise would take the place of a trip to WDW, so for us, it makes sense to just use what we have vs. renting and paying cash. In the long run, the difference is not enough to outweigh it, especially since we have no current plan to cruise every single year, especially with Disney.
We see it as the best of both worlds! Now if we ever decided that we wanted to cruise Disney a lot, then being cash paying guests would make more sense. But, not for the current plan. And lets be honest, we can never have too many points at WDW!
