Seriously considering booking the2026 member cruise. According to DVC I can't get the DCL Vacation Protection Plan. All that is available is the DVC insurance program for $121! Not very good coverage. What are you doing about insurance? (I want to use the Disney Visa for the 6 month free financing since I will be paying cash for the cruise instead of points). Thanks.

When I researched insurance last year I remember the DVC coverage being better than DCL’s coverage. I had to file a claim just last month with DVC’s plan for trip delay and had no issues. However, like Sandisw said, you can always purchase your own policy. It will most likely cost more, but depending on your situation and additional plans it may be worth it.

We purchase the insurance available through DVC. We've never had to file a claim. We live in Florida, so we don't have to worry about flight delays/cancellations for any WDW stays or cruises out of FL.

There are several websites that allow you to compare travel insurance coverage from various companies. I've found that cruise insurance through the company that provides our home and auto insurance is often less expensive than the cruise insurance available through DCL.

Think about what you want covered:
Is it only the cruise, or will you have non-refundable costs for transportation and/or hotel stays before or after the cruise? The insurance purchased through DCL covers only what's booked through DCL; I'm not sure what DVC insurance covers.

Do you have medical conditions that could flare up and require treatment? Some insurance will cover pre-existing conditions only if purchased within a short time of when the trip was booked; others will cover them for an additional fee or won't cover pre-existing conditions at all.

Will your medical insurance cover you if you need treatment during the cruise, either on the ship or in a port? If not, are you willing to pay out-of-pocket, or do you want insurance to cover treatment?
