DVC increases points without decrease in 04/05

I was looking over the new point chart thats on the DVC web site, and I notice that the points have gone up for the Disneyland resorts and also the the Disney Cruise. Now I know that the DVC can have the points increase as long as they decrease on another night. Well after looking long and hard I see that there is no decrease in both the cruise or WDl. all they did was add categorys. I'm I missing something? Or do the DVC add points without taking away somewhere else, and if they did this, this is completely not what the product understanding checklist states that they can do. Which would be # 8 on the checklist. Can someone also look to see if this is what has happened.

I believe this rule applies to DVC resorts only.

June is correct, points are only guaranteed to equal out for DVC resorts. Exchanges into Disney Collection, Cruise etc are always subject to change and are a perk.

Absolutely this rule applies to DVC resorts only. Points for trade outs or other Disney resorts can go up dramatically in any given year with no decrease at all.

DVD negotiates the trading schedules of points each year, and for the other Disney resorts, they are negotiating with a different division of Disney.

You are only portected against point increases in the DVC resorts.

I told you in another post that DVC doesn't explain the price protection for the DVC resorts and the lack of price protection for outside trades well enough!

It is not easily ascertainable, I agree. I feel there is a certain amount of "price protection" built in because as the price of a cruise goes up, so does the price of staying at a DVC resort tend to rise because of inflation, etc- there has been a rough correlation up to this point. If the cost in points for a cruise goes up, the relative value of a cruise vs staying at a DVC resort can be assumed to have risen.

These options not only can, but usually do, increase each year. The options could also cease to exist tomorrow. The only guarantees are the use of the DVC resorts.

Thanks for theinfo, I just don't recall our DVC guide telling us that it was only the DVC resort that went up on points and something esle going down. I just thought that it was for even for DL plus the DCL.

The points for the cruise and other "Disney vacation options" have increase dramatically every year. This happens for several reasons:

*The cruise is a very popular vacation

*The high point cost encourages members to add-on.

*DVC has zero negotiating abilities within the Disney Corp.

*CRO buys your traded points from DVC at a rock bottom price determined by...Hmmmmm...Disney. Then CRO can rent your traded points (maybe during Xmas week), pay for your cruise, and still make a big profit on them.

As long as DVCers are willing to hand their points over to CRO to rent for them, we will continue to see these huge increases for the non-DVC Disney options.

We're crusing (seven day western) soon on points we rented out ourselves and it cost us 420 pts, thats a far cry from what DVC wanted us to pay for two catagory 10's for a family of five (656 points). We saved over 230 pts from the DVC rate.

Trading your points through DVC is convenient, but it has a high $$ cost. I like DVC/Disney, but I think they get enough of my money, and I'd prefer not to throw "free points" their way.

I think you misunderstood Johnnie Fedora's post. They rented out 420 of there pts........then paid cash for his cruise instead of using DVC pts(656).

Yes, Nick is correct. I rented out 420 of our points, and used the proceeds to pay for our upcoming DCL vacation. DVC members fare better moneywise by using this method of paying for the cruise, than a direct point exchange with DVC.

The most value for you DVC points is received when you stay at a DVC resort.

It's not there because it hasnt' been released yet. Expect it about March or April of next year. And yes, that means you might be making reservations for the following year before the chart comes out. In this case, DVC does not guarantee this years points, you agree to pay no matter how many points it goes up. You are reserving blind, not a good thing.

Quite possibly DVC and DCL have not yet finished negotiating the point "price" for 2005 cruises. We used points for a cruise exactly once. At the time (August 2000), it seemed to be a good use of our points. When we cruise again, I'm sure that we'll pay cash.

Thats how we paid for our first cruise. Rented out 460 points to pay for the Disney Cruise. On points, it would have been over 700 for 4 in cat 5. I find this to be the best option.
