How do you know how much a place will cost? I see some rates but are they the amount of points per day? If so that seems very expensive. I see the avg cost for people selling their points is about $8.00 a point. How many points basically to get a place in November?

Actually the average cost per point is more like $10-12. For a Sunday-Thursday stay you would need anywhere from 8 points per night for a studio at Old Key West to 71 points per night for a Grand Villa at Sartoga Springs Resort. Weekend nights are alot more and wouldn't save you much money. It would help to know where you think you want to stay, which week in November since Thanksgiving week is more expensive, and the size of accomodations you are seeking. You can also go to the Disboards on the Disney Vacation Club sub board and there is a points chart for each resort at the top of the page. That would let you be able to figure out the cost. Even at $12 per point you get a much better deal than paying rack through CRO.

Roght mpw the plan is to be there on Nov9-13. I'm not sure where I stay is too important. Or is it? I can do a value room for about 59 a night. Advantages/Disadbantages?

You are trying to compare apples to oranges. A value resort is a typical hotel room. The DVC resorts are villas so even the studio has a kitchenette and is a bit nicer than the value resort. If you look at the One and Two bedroom villas you get more of a small apartment type thing with a nice bathroom, kitchen, and laundry facilities. It all depends on if you are happy with just a place to sleep basically or if you will be spending a significant time in the room.

You may want to look at allearsnet.com and look at pictures of the different types of resorts.

one other thing you may run into is that the cheaper studio rooms can be completely booked up by 5 or 6 months in advance.

renting points also requires more trust - as someone could theoretically take your money and then cancel the reservation (which you have no way of verifying until you check in.) you are making the reservation with the individual and disney would have no obligation to make things up to you.

if you're happy with a $59 value room, it is MUCH less of a hassle IMO. but if you want to spend more money and want deluxe accomodations onsite for much less than $300 a night, DVC renting (or buying) is worth a look.

I don't think that renting is a hassle at all. I rented several times before I decided to buy DVC. After purchasing I have also rented some extra points occasionally.

If you are going to rent, my suggestion would be to rent from someone on the DIS that is NOT a new member, and also get a contract and pay through paypal. That way you have recourse if there is a problem with your reservation. I personally have had wonderful experiences with both sides of the transaction.

Have a magical vacation no matter what you choose! :wizard:

Hi,
Just wondering how you got $59? Every value I look at is more. We are going in Jan.
Thanks!

My family is going Dec. 11-15, a Mon-Fri. We're staying at a 2BR villa at SSR and needed
108 points which I rented for $10/pt. The price is $500/night or thereabouts and so this
is saving us over $1,000 to rent the points. AWESOME. The DVC member made the
ressie in my name through Member Services, sent me the confirmation, then I sent a
deposit equal to one night, and I'll send the balance 60 before the trip. Saving money
makes me joyful.

I have rented points for my personal use and I now own and in turn have rented some of my points. If you want Deluxe accomaditions they do not compare to value or moderate. The amenities of the property or the matress for that matter. I hurt so bad sleeping in the values, in the villas, and I have now slept in 3 different ones, I have a wonderful nights sleep. The one bedrooms are over 700 sf and the 2 bedrooms are over 1000 sf. The studios' are 350 to almost 400 sf depending on where you stay. There is a huge difference in the rooms and a huge difference in the price if you rent points. Of course, those that don't trust DVC owners can always buy their own. The pools are wonderful and we have all kinds of perks that others do not have, I could go on and on but I won't. I doubt you'll find any $8.00 point rentals. Those days are gone, I hope.
