Hi, hope you can all help me (and im sure you can!!)

Ive been looking at the DVC and trying to talk my Disney Husband 2B round also - but im not going to have time on my vacation this year to actually go and look around the resort or get the info so can anyone please explain how it works and how much it costs etc?

Know its a lot to ask but any info you have would be great!! :earboy2:

Very brief reply - sorry!! But I wanted to tell you that I found this FAQ very useful. :)

(we live in London too)

If you read the FAQ I can add the following:-

DVC only really works out if you are used (or intend) to stay on site at Disney in probably moderate to luxury accommodation each year or at the very least every other year.

The flights to Orlando are not cheap and during school holidays the prices triple!!! You will also have to pay annual dues every year. If you plan to use points at Disneyland Paris and exchanges you will still need to pay maintenance (annual dues) each year which could work out bad value for money.

Having said all that DVC is excellent for us as we found staying in the Grand Floridian bad value for money compared to DVC. We can also take our friends with us as we are doing next year. We are also using points at Disneyland Paris and an exchange to Devon next February half term.

Good luck in your decision

I don't agree. We bought in 1996 and ours paid for itself by 2001. We planned to go every 2-3 years and bought enough points (220) for 1 week in a 1 bed in high season each year but then bank and borrow.

I think you have to bear in mind that you wont always have to go in school holidays. We bought when the boys were 15 and 12, they are now 24 and 21.

We have used the points for 4 holidays (each 2 or 3 weeks) with other families, for 1 holiday on our own (8 days at HH), allowed the boys to spend 10 days with friends at OKW, and next year we're going to OKW for 12 days and then our eldest son and his girlfriend are going to OKW for 2 weeks.

We've also spent 3 days in DL and 3 days in DLP. We hosted my brother's wedding reception at our OKW 2 bed villa last year.

We've had more enjoyment out of our DVC membership than we would out of 'standard' holidays at WDW and I would thoroughly recommend it.

I agree with susieh...we have no intention of going every year, never did, but we bought because we thought when we do go we'll have nice accommodation, we might swap now and again and we let our children use it. Not everyone buys with a view to making it work financially, and we feel the annual dues are quite reasonable so not a problem.

thanks for the help guys! im a total disney fanatic! thats why im interested in this, also im only 20 at the moment so i figured it would work out quite well. I usually tend to go in september for 2 weeks and stay in the boardwalk area. Does anyone know roughly how many points i would need for that? and how much do the annual fee's work out at?

Boardwalk dues this year are $4.41 per point. To find out how many points you need to buy, depending on what type of accomodation you prefer to stay in, download this great DVC planner.

Are you planning to go every year? If not, don't forget you can bank or borrow, or both, to give yourself up to three times your yearly allocation of points to "pay" for one holiday.

The points for September for 2 weeks are:
Studio Standard view 170
Studio Preferred view 208
1 bed 324
2 bed 444

If you would like to show some great pictures of DVC to your 2b husband, check out Tagrels tours of BWV Luna park pool and Storm a Long Bay at the Beach Club. He's also got great room tours.

Good luck with your decision.

why not get dvc to ring you go to there website and give them your information they will ring you back if you have not aredy booked your rooms whynot just buy into dvc sight unseen and use that cost towards the price dues on 200 points bwv £480.00 for us last year think outlay for points at $99 a point (ssr) $19800 at $1.8-£=£11000
