Hi - I'm not familiar with the exact details of the DVC member golf discount, but here's a link with some information as a starting point...

As a DVC member, you can buy the annual DVC Golf card for $50 plus tax. You then pay a discounted price per round for you and up to three guests playing with you. The discounted price for the four 18-hole courses at WDW is currently

January 21 – April 25
Before 10:00 a.m. tee times $109.00
After 10:00 a.m. $89.00

April 26 – October 3
Before 10:00 a.m. $59.00
After 10:00 a.m. $39.00

October 4 – January 20
Before 10:00 a.m. $79.00
After 10:00 a.m. $59.00

You can call for a time 14 days in advance for that Jan-April period, 90 days in advance for rest of year (usually if you call 14 days in advance you can get what you want or something very close to it). You don't need the DVC annual golf card to make the reservation, you just buy it when you show up at any of the pro shops for your first tee time. You can make reservations on line in the Disney World site's golf section or call 407-WDW-GOLF.

How much of a discount those numbers above actually represent varies according to time of year and course chosen. For example, during that prime Jan to April time, which has the highest discounted price, the actual discount is also high because the regular price for the courses varies between $140 and $165. During that late April to early Oct period, with the lowest discounted price, the actual discount may not be that much because, for example, the after ten regular price during the summer is often no more than $45 to $60. The price gets you cart for the round and free tees you can pick up at the starter. Costing extra are range balls, rental clubs, or rental shoes.

You can also play the 9-hole exceutive course (walking only, pull-carts available), Oak Trail, usually for $20 (regular price is often close to $40)

Also be aware that if you travel about the same time every year, that "annual" DVC golf card may be good for two trips. When you show up to buy it during any day of a month, its start date is the first of the month and its end date is the last day of the same month in the next year. For example, assume you go early October every year. When you buy it it is good for the first Oct you are there, but when you return in Oct the next year, that same card is still good because it does not expire until Oct 31.

DH is a huge golfer!!! This is great news!

My DH is also a big golfer (he sees WDW as a golf resort that has theme parks to keep the non-golfers busy while he plays!). I remember when we were there in May, there was some golf lessons at SSR for a discounted price just for DVC members. And he figured that he paid for the card in one round, while the DVCer in the 4-some with him didn't want to pay the money for the card! Guy paid $59 for the round + $50 for the card. The other golfer paid $109 for the same round.

Thanks everyone! This information has sealed the fact that I will be buying a golf card! Can't wait to take some people on a golf trip! Doesn't get any better than that! Does anyone know for sure about club rentals?

Club rentals are $55 per set Titleist or Cobras
Shoes I believe are $10
It pays to bring your own if you plan on playing more than once.

WDW resort guests get free club rental when paying non-discounted resort guest green fees, which right now are $89 M-F and $99 Sat & Sun

Be sure to play Osprey Ridge. After 2010 it will no longer be a Disney course.

We always travel to WDW with other golfers and on our last golf membership period we put 32 rounds on the card. That really made the $50.00 a good investment!

Enjoyed reading this thread as I am a huge golfer. I plan on playing LBV in December and playing some of the others in Jan. and also May of 2010.(I've never played at Disneyworld, so I am really looking forward to it.) Looks like I'll be getting the DVC discount card when I go in December.

If you're a huge golfer, you live in the right state. DH just made ressies to go to Alabama for a golfing trip. Since this is his third or fourth trip, I guess there's lots of good golf there.
At WDW the 6th hole at Magnolia with the Mickey shapped sand trap is especially cute-and a good course to play (but then, is there a bad one?) Some people find LBV kind of tight, with all the buildings around, but if you're used to playing at a course with houses around, it'll be OK.

Thanks for the info, I have Magnolia on my list to play. I really enjoy playing the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama. I have only played the ones in North Alabama, but hope to get around to all of them in the next couple of years.

Osprey (a Tom Fazio track) is by far the best Disney course (perennially ranked in top 100 resort courses in Golf Digest), with the most memorable holes and one you will defnitely want to hit because after 2010, it will be closing to be redone and turned over to Four Seasons which is building a hotel, condos and homes as seasonal timeshares (buy a month to three at exorbitant prices) on the property around the course and Osprey will be renamed and become its course.

Quick story about Osprey Ridge: A friend and I decided to play on New Year's Eve morning. An assistant starter met us on the way to the first tee and he warned us, "The man who designed this course hated people."

To say that the course was difficult is an understatement, however, it was the most beautifully designed and landscaped part of the resort property I've ever seen.

And all the cast members treat all players extremely well. It was a wonderful experience.

Oh, the water hazard below the 9th or 10th tee has some extra balls in it for anyone to use. I left them there for you.

If you can get it Osprey is a must play. We will be playing twice during our trip at the end of October, but Osprey is not available that week for some reason.

I think the Fazio design is very "playable". It can be difficult with a lot of water in play, but where in Floridia isn't water in play.
