We purchased DVC - SSR in August for a Christmas Present for our family. My 10 yr old DD has no clue that we bought it. We are going down for our first visit home on Jan 1, 2007 (can't wait). We are not telling her we are going to Disney, our plan is tell her we are just going to Atlanta on New Years Eve to watch the Peach Drop, fireworks and New Years fun, once we go past Atlanta she wil know we are going to Disney but still no clue about DVC - SSR. I need some suggestions on how to give her the gift of DVC. Any ideas will be wonderful.

Thanks in advance.......

Call your guide (or go online) and ask for a DVC video. You can also order a WDW video online at www.disneyworld.com . You could also call the resort store and purchase a shirt with the SSR logo as a present.

Sounds like a great surprise. Enjoy! :)

Did you receive the DVC tote bag when you joined? It would be fun to put a beach towel, sunglasses, & other pool stuff in it. Then, include some sort of note about "Hope you enjoy the pool at your new home" or something like that.

Your DD's only 10...does she really understand DVC and what the concept is behind it? My kids are 13 & 11 and still don't have a clue even though we've been members for a few years now. All they know is that we've been going to WDW a heck of a lot more! I just don't really know how you could give her the gift of DVC other than telling her you just guaranteed a vacation for her for the next "X" amount of years.

I was going to say, it would be difficult for a young kid to understand DVC... heck... there are a bunch of grownups that haven't a clue!

If you want to suprise her, as you pass by Atlanta and she finally asks "mom... where are we going?!" Just say, "Well, I thought it might be a little more fun to spend New Years at Disney World! You know we own a little bit of it now so we are gonna be going WAY more often!!!" :teeth:

You could contact the Disney florist and maybe get a DVC basket or something delivered to your room to be there for the arrival.

BTW, we are gonna be at SSR then too... 12/31/06 thru 1/5/07. Looking forward to it!!! :)

Yes my DD is only 10, but going on 20. She totally understands the DVC Concept and how it works. This is a kid that takes her 25.00 a week allowance and birthday/christmas money and invests in Disney and Build-a-bear Stock with sharebuilder each week. She doesn't want video games or toys, she looks at the BIG picture. She has a great protfolio already.

I LOVE the idea about the members bag with all the pool items (THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP).

We are going to have it shipped down to SSR before we get there and have it there when we get there.

Thanks Again

Our kids are considerably younger, so definitely do not understand the time share concept. However, they know what a condo is, as we often stay/rent condos when we visit elsewhere. And being in New England, many of their friends have ski condos that we get to visit now and then. So, using this concept, we told them that "our condo" is in Disney World. True, it is not ours in the sense of owning a condo year round, but it made sense to them. And yes....they went NUTS when we told them!

In that case, as you pass by Atlanta hand her a spreadsheet that shows how you will break even in 7-10 years by buying DVC. :teacher: She will undoubtedly by very happy to hear that the family will be going to WDW more often now, but she may want to see the cost justification. :rotfl2:

Tell her you you bought her a gift, but it's not at home and you need to take a trip to get it. When you enter the SSR grounds and she sees the resort, tell her "Merry Christmas... This is your gift".

If you call MS, you might be able to get them to send you one of the giclee prints. We're letting our kids open that on Christmas morning!

She did tell me that I could take $5,000.00 of her Disney stock as the down payment for the DVC if we could get it. Couldn't see doing that to her. She loves looking at the stock ticker every evening before dinner, I think I have created a monster or maybe the next Trump.

thanks again

Ok, well that's both the cutest thing ever, and a little depressing that a 10 year old has a stock portfolio and I don't!

Your 10-year-old seems to have a very good head on her sholders ALREADY! Is there any way that I could borrow her for a few days so that she can teach my 15-year-old daughter the value of money?
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Megan spends money on junk as soon as she gets it. Although, she may be learning about hard work soon enough...she starts her first job (other than sporadic babysitting) today as a seating hostess at a neighborhood restaurant.

Since your daughter is "money smart," I second the suggestion of having a "portfolio" of your DVC purchase all ready for her to look over in the car once she realizes that you're not going to Atlanta after all. Maybe make up a bag of all things DVC related: pictures and layouts of the different room types, the newest Vacation Planner, etc. This should help keep her busy for a few hours...

Congratulations and Welcome Home!!!
