I just called WDW tours to book the Family Magic Tour for our April trip. According to our member website, we get a 20% discount.

I was told that the 20% is only go until March 31st, then it goes down to 15%. Looks like it will be for all tours.

They should have this up on the member website. I'll call Member services tomorrow.

That's a shame but 15% is still a great benefit. :thumbsup2

It was in the email update sent to members which is still posted on the website. As I recall, it was also in an issue of Vacation Magic. So, be sure to call Member Services and complain that you don't read the things that are sent to you. In addition, the 20% was a special that applied to Magic Kingdom tours beginning in March 2005. It's just reverting back to the original discount and the one that applies to other tours. Or, perhap you didn't read that either when the discount came out. Sorry to be harsh, but members were notified both of the fact that this was a special and that it was expiring, so I don't see where a call to MS is in order especially since the perks pages also indicate that the perks can and do expire. You are criticizing DVC for your mistake and misunderstanding.

Now, now. Be nice! ;)

I took the seven-hour Backstage Magic tour a few weeks ago. I thought it was well worth the money. Very good tour.

WOW....just WOW. Saying "Sorry to be harsh" doesn't excuse your flame. That was totally unnecessary!!!!!

I posted this because I thought others that didn't know would want advance notice.

I did book the tour yesterday and am happy with the 15% off....I was just going to call MS to let them know that their website didn't have the latest information.

I'm sorry, but I spend most of my time on computers...because, as you can tell from my name, I'm a Unix Administrator. I don't always get to read the Vacation Magic magazine that shows up since I put in 60-70 hour weeks many times. I've never received and email from DVC....not sure if they have my email address. I log into the website and see the information there. If it is incorrect, then someone should be aware of it!

And the information IS on the website--I already pointed that out. I stand by my previous statement--DVC informed members of the SPECIAL discount using at least two if not three means. If you read the website, the perks pages are the CURRENT perks. Therefore, the web pages are not incorrect, nor do they need to be changed. If you have time to call member services to complain, you have time to read the emails and Vacation Magic online (no one said you had to read the hard copies!!!). It irks me to no end when members complain about not being informed when they do not utilize the resources that are available to them to stay informed. The member website has a wealth of information. It's not perfect, but there is a ton more there than most people give credit for.

First, you mention March 2005...I wasn't even a member then!!! How was I to know that it was a "special" discount. I log into our website, click on Member Perks, WDW Resort, and Tours and it says:

Disney's Family Magic Tour

Receive a 20% discount on this two-hour interactive tour that takes you through the themed lands of the Magic Kingdom Park in search of clues. Be a part of an amazing Disney story adventure that could only happen in the Magic Kingdom Park! Theme Park admission is not included, but is required. Offered daily at 10:00 a.m. All ages are welcomed.

WHY THE HECK WOULD I LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE? I read the information and trusted it's source. I wasn't screaming and complaining that they changed it....I was just informing others that it changed. Even if I read it months ago, I don't live and breath DVC and don't memorize the perks....I log into the Member website to look up a perk. If it is not up to date, it should changed. If there is an expiration, it should be noted. Not a big deal....I was just going to call MS to let them know that it needs to be updated. Why this bothers you, I don't understand.

Well, it irks me to no end when someone comes into an informative thread for no reason but to flame the OP. It is unnecessary and extremely rude!

From the website: "Tour discount changes in April
The special 20 percent Member discount on Magic Kingdom® tours at the Walt Disney World Resort, as reported in the winter 2005 edition of Vacation Magic magazine, will be available through the end of March.

Choose from Disney's Family Magic Tour, an interactive quest through the Theme Park; Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour, revealing a variety of Park secrets; Disney's "The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains" Tour, taking you behind the scenes of the Walt Disney World Railroad; and Mickey's Magical Milestones Tour, retracing Mickey Mouse's rise to fame.

Beginning in April, the Member discount for Magic Kingdom tours will revert to 15 percent, which is the regular Member discount for all Walt Disney World Theme Park tours.

To learn more about available tours, call (407) WDW-TOUR (939-8687), and remember to mention that you're a Disney Vacation Club Member."

Not sure it could be any clearer than that. I reiterate: you are looking at the current perks page, the entry of which clearly indicates that that is what it is. Since this perk is currently available, it should still be listed as such. The perks policies and future perks, etc. are listed in other places on the website and this expiration was there.

GOOD FOR YOU!! i in no way saw you OP as whining and complaining. i'm so glad you stuck up for yourself! some people on this board are just plain nasty and always looking for a fight. thank you for the info, i'm glad you let me know about the 15% bc i was planning to book a tour soon. that is still a great discount. and being a new member, i have only ever seen the 20% also, not knowing it was a special. so i appreciate your help :sunny: i hope i never make a mistake on here or come across as whiny... yikes :scared:

The discount has been 15% on every tour except those in the MK and continues to be. There is no reduction in the discount on any tours except certain ones at MK. My reaction to the OP is his comment that he was going to call MS to talk with them about this. Leave out his comment about calling MS (even with the comment about it needing to be on the website--even though it is already there), and there would have been no response. I apologize again for being overly harsh, but, again, getting this information is just a matter of reading the information that is available to you, and reading it carefully. Bottom line: the perks pages are for current perks. Policies and changes in perks are generally handled in other areas of the website (except for pool hopping based on past experience).

DoctorP,

I went to the site again and did additional searching, and yes, I did find it mentioned that it was changing....BUT....I again state that most people don't memorize every change that is going to happen, may not be up to date on things, and utilize the Member website as their reference. If I find it on the website in any one place and it gives me the info, I don't then search around further to see if it is listed somewhere else with more up to date info.

I challenge you to go into the member website, go to Member Perks, Click on Walt Disney World, then Tours and Magic Kingdom Park.....and find anything about it going down to 15% (or even anything that the 20% was a temporary "special")

MY point was that I utilized this OBVIOUS set of links to find out our discount and it was not up to date. It may be plastered all over the rest of the site, but if I utilize the links they provide, and it does not give me the latest info, then there is a problem that should be rectified.

The only reason I put that comment in my original post was to let people know that I was going to inform MS that the portion of their website that I just pointed you to was not up to date.

I thought I was being proactive in helping keep people informed.

He shouldn't have been mean to you; you should have edited your original statements that indicated that DVC hadn't adequately informed members. Are we okay now? :confused3

I agree that they COULD put it where you have suggested, but I would also note that the pages to which you refer are the CURRENT perks pages and are clearly labeled as such on the entry page. The perks change regularly and members are expected to check whether a perk applies to the time at which they will be vacationing. Actually, preannouncing this perk change is kind of unusual in my experience. Most of the DISCOUNT perks are reevaluated regularly and change from time to time without notice. Your suggestion is a good one, but email it to MS if you are going to contact them. I am extremely sensitive about unnecessary calls to MS--just look at the posts today of people who could not get through to MS. Good luck, and enjoy your tour! Which one are you taking?

Yep. I agree wholeheartedly with the whole statement and apologize for being mean.

Thank you....and I'm sorry if I worded my OP a bit wrong. I was in no way upset with DVC and not blasting the change....I just wanted to make others aware of the change and that it was not stated when you followed the links.

Taking the Family Magic Tour. From what I read about it, even at full price ($25/pp), it is well worth it. I know my sons will love it.

The Family Magic Tour is a lot of fun. It entails solving "clues" around the MK to try to save it. Some nefarious villain in threatening the MK unless you can help find what has been stolen from him.

Thus, you must read the clues presented, determine where you need to go and then follow along. Of course, from each clue to the next, a child gets to determine what mode of transportation you will use (skipping, hopping, running, etc.).

After you solve all of the clues, you get to meet a famous character/s and go on a ride or to a show with him/her/them.

It is a lot of fun if you are willing to play along. My kids had a great time. It normally runs from 10:00 a.m until approximately 12:30 p.m.

That sounds like a lot of fun....how do you go about registering for this? Is availability pretty low? We are actually heading down next week and would love to try this. If not this trip maybe in November.

Call (407) WDW-TOUR (939-8687)

It's called the Family Magic Tour. DVC members get 20% off until March 31st, then down to 15%. My understanding is that the 20% off is also available if you use the Disney Visa card even after April 1st, and 15% off is available to AP holders, so there are multiple ways to get the discount.
