Do we get a discount at value resorts? How would we book that? We are staying at BCV starting on a Sunday but we're actually arriving on Saturday. We did book a cheap hotel but would prefer to stay onsite to take advantage of ME.

Do DVC owners get a discount if they are paying cash for rooms at there home resort? Example: My family is staying on points, but my in-laws want to stay for cash, if I put the room in my name would I get a discount?

the DVC owner has to be staying in the room to get the discount. (also, the 25% discount is not guaranteed...sometimes it is available and sometimes not.)

I believe this is correct if the discount is available ( it isn't always available ). The booking must be through MS not CRO. You, as the member, would have to call MS to inquire, book if available, etc.

Also, you are not restricted to your home DVC resort. You can call MS for a cash reservation at other DVC resorts.

If you check around this board, occasionally you'll get some discounted rooms at WDW or offsite. Normally they show up within a 3 month time frame. Just keep your eyes open. But we do not get any discounts for any other rooms other than DVC by being DVC members

If you think you might purchase an Annual Pass there are usually better room discounts that you can get as an AP holder. I think you'd only need to purchase one AP ( not one for every person in your party ) and you can book more then one room at the AP discount per trip. Presently DVC members get $100 off the price of AP too. :goodvibes

They can always rent points.

I don't think this is right. Last May, we went with our friends, who stayed on our points part of the time and cash part of the time. They got the 25% discount on the cash part. I made the phone call, but the reservation had their name and address on it, and was paid for with their credit card. (Confirmation was mailed to me, though.)

well, it used to be the rule...but things change...people change...interest rates fluctuate...

The DVC member discount (if available) is 25% off the rack rate and is usually available many months out. The AP discounts typically run closer to 40% off but they're not available until about 2 months (maybe 3) out. They wait to post those until they know what their occupancy is looking like. It's hit and miss which resorts it will be offered on.

We were able to book with the DVC member discount at 5 months out at VWL and 9 months out at AKV. Sometimes you may have to call over & over as the availability changes daily. We got VWL on the first call but it took 3 calls to hit the jackpot at AKV. I think the AP discount happens more frequently on the regular resorts over the DVC resorts. It is definitely a fantastic rate if you're OK with waiting to plan your trip until they're released. I personally prefer to plan further out though.:goodvibes
