DVC Direct Member Benefits Digital Card Questions

They checked our card for the Y and did not accept screen shots and checked id vs card 95% of the time in Disney land and Disney world
They checked the digital wallet card or the card shown if you login to the dvc website? Based on the website wording, the digital version from the website should be valid.

I was told that if someone wanted to show the one from the website, you had to log in to your DVC account frpm your phone to show it that way.

We have the digital version so didn’t ever have to do it, but that was the answer I got when asked what an alternative would be.

Between WDW, DL and even the Disney store at MCO I’ve had every kind of experience: CMs that barely glance at my phone, those that need to see my drivers license in addition to digital DVC-Y, some make me scroll to show that it’s not just a screenshot, some scan the QR code. Personally, I don’t spend so much that the discounts are a big deal, plus I have a WDW AP and DL MK. The bigger issue with direct vs. resale is the ability to use points at non-home resorts.

That's good that there's at least an alternative. Although I do feel bad for those who aren't up to date with technology. I don't see why they can't just use a qr code and verify with ID. Then just deactivate it if you're no longer eligible. Then you could have the code on your phone, make your own card, get a tattoo...whatever way you want to do it.

They made me tie it in and be able to pull it up through the my Disney experience app. They did not accept the Apple wallet version. Also did not accept me logging into the Dvc web site… they did show me how to tie it in with the app and get it work they way they wanted it to.

Can you elaborate on how you tied it in through the app? I thought going through MDE just got it into your Apple/Google wallet.

This makes no sense. The Apple Wallet version is literally the version DVC specifically requests that you utilize and they provide directions and a video outlining how to add it to the wallet on the DVC website. I have never heard of anyone being told they can't use the Apple Wallet virtual card as it's the version CM's have been trained to ask for since Day 1 (with some obvious hiccups).

Agreed - the digital card in my Apple Wallet seems to be the standard they want to see. I hit the 'info' button to verify DVC-Y. If they don't accept that, not sure what digital version they're looking for!

Apple Wallet has existed since 2012 (Google Wallet is actually a little older than that), so at a certain point society has to move on from people who refuse to learn new things, right?

The website signup, call up etc is the one place it is consistent.
We have been asked for the card now digital DVC Y and not for Dining. Some places are consistent in asking and a few require a manager to approve - I will leave out the specifics. Shopping discounts have been consistent to the point years ago I showed my card and ID and the person said no because my young teen son was paying so I had take the cash and pay. The lounge has been consistent however last year they just glanced at the card did not look for the Y did not ask to see ID and asked how many. I think a lot Dining gets the most never need to see but I will add it is the places that have Disney credit card, DVC, AP and any other I may not know about.... in other words most are getting a discount.

On our most recent trip, Apple Wallet was sufficient for DVC discount - for A/P verification all of the CMs had me pull up our ticket in MDE. Maybe PP has both? If so, I could see where it gets confusing...

This was at Disneyland if that matters… they were way stricter at Disneyland vs world (did world in April, land in June)

I believe that latest statistics indicate that 96% of the US population owns a smart phone. In the 18-49 cohort it is 97%, in 50-64 it is 90%, and in the 65+ group it drops down to just under 80%. At some point in the VERY near future, based on that 18-49 number, there will no longer be any non-smart phone options available.

It doesn't because I live in Orange County and am a Magic Key holder (as well as a WDW AP holder), and I have never once been asked for anything other than the Apple Wallet version and I've been to the resort/parks/hotels probably a couple hundred times since they rolled out the digital card. THAT is the default official card.

Again, I don't understand what you mean by "way stricter". The Apple Wallet version IS the official digital ID card and the one that they are specifically supposed to ask for and accept over anything else. If they are being "way stricter", then the Apple Wallet card is the one they should be demanding to see (and then deferring to the temporary card you can get off the DVC site).

They refused to take the Apple wallet version at least 4 times of the 8 retail purchases I made over 4 days always retail never resturant and made me take out a photo id at least half the time.

Yoy showed the back of the Apple wallet card to show the details of DVC Y and QR code and they made you show something else? Crazy and those CMs were not well trained.

So, what exactly did they accept…what in MDE did they guide you to?

I've used the digital wallet card hundreds of times and never once been asked for some other sort of digital version.

That makes zero sense as the digital wallet card is the only official permanent ID card. I hate to be critical, but 50% of the CM's are not trained well, when virtually everyone else is asked to see the wallet version every time? I'm a local and have never encountered this. Yes, at the beginning there was some confusion as to why we didn't have the plastic card anyone, but I've never been specifically asked to show some other version of a digital card. How would a CM, poorly trained or otherwise, have any idea what "other" card they would want to see anyway?

This is what several people wanted to see at both world and land and didn’t take the Apple wallet card…. I feel attacked for stating my experience… it’s great that you have not experienced this… doesn’t change my experience…. And yes training related to Dvc is lacking.

I would show them my digital card in my wallet and tell them that is the proper method to prove membership, if they have any questions to check with their manager. I am not going on a wild goose chase to satisfy their lack of training to save 10% on an overpriced meal.
