DVC dining plan requirements

Does the following dining plan rule apply for those staying in DVC villas?:
-"Everyone staying in the same room must be on the same dining plan."


We were on the plan our last trip (beach club resort) and were told that my mother in law had to be on the same plan and ticket options as us because she was staying in the same room.

Yes, the dining rule does apply, but the ticket rule does not. With a DVC you don't have a complete package (room/meal plan/tickets) so each person can have different ticket media (APs, hoppers, single day tickets, etc.). Everything is taken care of separately, rather than in a package format.

DVC does not require tickets with the plan.
