DVC Christmas 2021

I have read several threads about expecting Christmas to be booked because people will be trying to use their points. We are looking at purchasing, and know we have missed the 11 month window for DEC 24-31. My question is, can anyone let me know availability this time period at BLT or PV because these are the two home resorts we are looking at purchasing. Would it be better to shoot for summer months with our points this year, and pay out of pocket for our Christmas vacation? I know it is a lot of questions, but looking for feed back from DVC members so I can have more information to share with my family.

Since you haven´t purchased yet, you most likely will not get what you want for 2021 (Christmas). Planning for a summer trip would be easier because you won´t be stress about not getting what you want. When you get your points, you just may get some pixie dust; a surprise is better than a disappointment. Thereś a thread about availability, but I don´t know how to link it.

We're not permitted to post information about availability for specific dates and resorts.

If you are making a direct purchase of points for either of those resorts, the process will be quicker and you will have your membership and points in a matter of days (weeks, if DVC does not have points available to sell to you).

Resale takes a significant amount of time. You are not likely to have your points until mid- to late-April. By then, a home resort booking window for late December will have come close to closing.

If you're not going to make a direct purchase, I would put your chances of booking Christmas 2021 at a very low percent, especially if you're focused on studios. Summer of 2022 is more realistic.

The only exception would be if it is your "welcome home" trip as a new DVC member. Member services can usually pull from cash inventory to make magic happen once.

But only if you purchase direct points. Resale buyers don’t get a Welcome Home booking.

As others have mentioned, Member Services can help you book your first trip if purchasing direct. You shouldn't have any problem at Poly and should be able to get something at BLT (maybe not a standard).

If purchasing resale and have your points before May 24: as good of a shot as anyone else switching at the 7 mo mark.
If purchasing resale and not having points by May 24: you may get lucky and find something other than SSR or you might just be lucky to get SSR.

It is my understanding that is the single busiest week. (Christmas to NY)

Even that is ‘iffy’ this year - I asked about cash availability for early December 2021 at some of the more popular visited Christmas resorts - no deal...

This is true. It is a bit of a misnormer that MS can get someone whatever they want, There are only so many AKV CL rooms or BWV rooms at BW and if those are booked already, there is no magic,

However, where you can get things is if you are buying a new resort, like RIV, in which 55% of rooms are still owned by DVD and they can use some of their own inventory to book a new DVC owner direct,

I still think people will be cancelling because of COVID restrictions and issues going around the US.

Many people on this forum even are looking for Fireworks, Parades, no masks, ect. When the time comes and thats no the case many people will cancel.

So you might have to piece something together but I suspect you will be able to get something if you watch what's available like a hawk.

I agree with this. Many international guests will book and hold for as long as they can this year (although I don’t expect to be traveling until the later half of 2222). The chances of picking up something around August/September for cancellations may be quite good. I have Christmas week booked at CCV, New Years at BLT, then into marathon weekend at BWV.
