DVC Chit Chat Thread

I agree that change is part of what keeps Disney special and I think the parks do need to evolve over time. There are so many former attractions and experiences guests still look back on fondly and as long as Disney continues creating things that guests will someday miss once they are gone, change can absolutely be a positive.

My biggest issue is Disney replacing attractions instead of truly expanding the parks. I am not even talking about building a fifth gate. Parks like AK, HS, and Epcot all have expansion pads that could be utilized instead of removing existing attractions.

SWGE replaced the Streets of America area and only added two rides and a quick service location. Even with Monsters, Inc., the entire Muppets Courtyard is being rethemed, but the coaster is really the only net new addition. Tropical Americas is essentially replacing three rides with three rides and swapping one play area for another. I am sure Casita and the carousel will have higher hourly guest throughput than Primeval Whirl and TriceraTop Spin, but Indiana Jones is the E ticket attraction and will have similar capacity to Dinosaur, so what is truly being added overall?

These parks already have far fewer attractions compared to MK, so it would be great to see true additions, like a new country in Epcot or attractions added to every pavilion. If Disney wants to move further away from the original Epcot concept with IP based attractions like Frozen, then fully commit to it. Ratatouille is a great example of how to expand successfully. Unfortunately, the planned Mary Poppins attraction for the UK pavilion never happened.

The Epcot overhaul also removed Innoventions West, scaled back the original plans due to budget cuts, and essentially rebuilt the same building into a “festival center” (if you can call it that), even though Wonders of Life had already filled that role during festivals for years. Now Wonders of Life sits closed and underutilized. The same goes for Stitch’s Great Escape in MK. There are plenty of dormant or overlooked spaces throughout the parks that could be refreshed and repurposed before removing attractions that are still drawing guests.
Strongly agree with all of this. I was pretty against losing Maelstrom to Frozen…but there are a lot of actual countries with actual Disney stories set in them or character associated with them and they really need a few more rides around World Showcase…and while we’re at it, I want Marrakesh back too.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, and have done some searching, but thought I'd ask too.
Last minute, kinda unplanned trip might be coming up in June. DD and I are considering DVC annual passes. We've done these in the past many years, but this year is a little different in that DD, who is 21, might be going early to meet up with my older son. She lives in the our household, our address for DVC, and her driver's license has this address, but just need to know if she can get her DVC AP without me there. or do we just buy it ahead of time, and it'll be activated on first use, or will she need to stop at guest services?
similar vein. if she gets a regular 4 day ticket instead, and then decides to upgrade to the AP, can we still do that at guest services before that last day?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can just buy in advance and then activate when she gets there. She can go to the tap in station. Usually you can activate it there, but once in a while they make you go over to guest services.
Yes, you can upgrade.

Hope you have a good trip.

The best way to purchase the Sorcerer Pass is for you to call MS and buy it for her. Explain to them what you're trying to do. They should be able to make it happen, but your daughter will probably need to stop by a Guest Services window before entering a Park the first time in order to verify the address on her ID matches your official DVC address. It's also possible that MS will go ahead and pre-verify her eligibility without seeing her ID. In which case your daughter can go straight to a park and the pass will activate when she enters the first time. MS isn't technically supposed to do that, but they might. In any case, you're daughter will know if she needs to stop by Guest Services first or not by looking at her pass in her MDE account. It will say on the pass.

As for upgrading a four day pass to a DVC Sorcerer Pass, yes that can still be done. I seriously doubt she would be able to do that at WDW without you, but if you're there with her before that 4 day ticket expires, then you shouldn't have any problems upgrading it to a Sorcerer Pass - provided that ticket isn't used on a day that the Sorcerer Pass is blocked out (there aren't any of those in June, though).

There have been inconsistent reports that Sorcerer passes purchased through MS need activation before working at the gate.

I think the best option is your ticket upgrade suggestion. If DD goes to GRs to activate a Sorcerer pass she has no way to verify your DVC membership since she isn’t an owner. If she starts a four day ticket and you go to GRs with her when you meet up to upgrade it, that would probably be the safest option.

As a related data point, when we purchased a SP for my minor child (the rest of us had passes already) last fall, we were required to go to a ticket booth day 1 to do something which involved me giving proof of my ID (don’t think I had to show proof of membership but potentially they checked it and I forgot).

Interesting fact you may not know about the UK…. We actually celebrate “Pancake Day” each year…. which involves making copious amounts of crepes.
There is also a pancake race that originated in Olney which is a little town near me! That involves running with a frying an while flipping the (crepe style) pancake and trying not to drop it!

You also make an important point here—in my 20s, I could wake at 6:30, rope drop, nap from 1-4, and then stay out until midnight (back in the magical days where almost every day had extended hours at one park)— these days I’ve got kids who won’t nap for any amount of bribes, so it’s harder to pull off.

Honestly, I think I would land here except that I’m on the West Coast and I work from home in pajamas so it’s like 4-5 hours earlier to rope drop Epcot, let alone AK. 😨

I would DEFINITELY rope drop for Cosmic Rewind if the preshow process wasn’t so crazy long. Like if I could get even 2 rides in before the wait stretched out beyond 45 minutes, it would be easier to justify to myself. For now, I just pay the after hours tax instead.
I'm the opposite, when i first get to FL I'm wide awake at 4am (if I'm lucky enough to sleep until then!), great for rope dropping but coming home the jet lag hits me hard!
My first visit was 1988. A whole lot has changed but that's okay. We still have windows into the past.

I don't really recognize my old self in the mirror. But I accept who I am now and I enjoy my life.

I also don't believe in living in the past but I can certainly remember most of it fondly.
I did not get to see a lot of the older classics that have been mentioned! I never went as a kid. I would have loved to see some of that! I think it's nice others were able to see the older WDW and can still enjoy it now!

Awesome. How long was the wait for Slinky and how were the lines generally?

Was something special happening at EPCOT tonight? I thought Mondays are EPCOT nights.
Slinky was posted as 30 minutes, but was actually about 20 minutes which was fine. I don't know if anything special was happening at EPCOT. It was a weird week for the Extended Evening Hours because they didn't have them for Magic Kingdom this week- it was HS and AK.
Wow the wait today at MK for Tron is shorter than during the AH.

It’s only listed as 30minutes but the line goes faster than that.

Guess it’s because of the early closure today.
Wednesday was awesome at MK because of the early closure!! We rode Tron 3 times in less than 30 minutes during early entry. We could have kept going, but I was over Tron at that point! Since EE was at 7:30am, it felt like an empty park for at least an hour since I think a bunch of people thought EE was at 8:30am. Even after that, the wait times were low. Highly recommend hitting a park that has an early closure. We left around 2pm, grabbed a nap and dinner, then hopped to Animal Kingdom for Extended Hours.
Went to the lounge and was told there was 13 parties in front of me so they couldn’t guarantee how long it would take.

I asked about how many of them are MMB, and was told none.

So I’m now waiting with priority.

ETA: it was a 6minute wait.
Same thing happened to us! Once inside McKim's there were so many open tables. I was surprised to hear there were so many people waiting to get in but yet there was clearly room available. They tried to put me and my husband at a table for 6 people, but I insisted on a smaller table so they could use the larger table for a bigger group. They didn't bring anyone else in to fill it or the other empty tables though. I thought that was weird. Is it normal for them to not fill the lounge and keep a large wait list? I was glad we have DVC-BY so we could get in within minutes but hated that was necessary.

I still haven't written Slinky Dog at all. How thrilling is it compared to other Disney coasters? Is it similar to something like Big Thunder or more thrilling like Expedition Everest or what?

Definitely "family friendly." I would say Slinky Dog Dash sits above Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, but below Big Thunder in terms of rollercoaster intensity at WDW.
Agreed-- Slinky is more like Seven Dwarfs, less than Big Thunder for intensity. One of the nice things about Slinky is that the restraints are individual rather than a single restraint bar for both riders. I like that individual lap bar because there is a large height difference for myself and my husband. As the smaller person, I go sliding around quite a bit on Big Thunder but am secure in Seven Dwarfs and Slinky with the individual restraint. I imagine kids feel the same way given the size difference between them and the parent.

I don't think WL always shares buses. But on our last two trips (Jan 2024 and Jan 2025) we would share with Fort Wilderness when going to Epcot. And Contemporary when going to Animal Kingdom. I can't recall if we shared for HS. Maybe with FW again?

I'm thinking maybe they don't share during more busy hours or busy times of the year. But we aren't rope droppers and it was the "slow" time of year too so we definitely shared.
We were at BLT for the first half of our trip and then Poly. BLT/Contemporary shared busses with Wilderness Lodge. They seemed to always pick up and drop off at WL first.

I saw that, and I think it sounds like a good solution with a minor change. If they always start with the last section, then everyone who normally crowds towards the doors will now just crowd towards one particular door to get in the section that is released first. They now need to just randomize the order or let the CM choose which of the 3 sections are let go so that no one section has an advantage over the others for people to fight over. Of course if I were a CM with that power and I saw people rush to fill one particular one, I would always choose to release that one last 🤣
Did Cosmic Rewind several times over our trip last week and they were definitely alternating door 1 and 3 opening first. The middle door always stayed closed and roped off. It was a gamble on which door you would stand in front of.

Activated our Sorcerer Passes about 10 days ago. We went directly to Guest Relations at MK and it took them about 5 minutes to activate our two passes. I didn't even try to go directly to the gate, but given that it took him a few minutes, I imagine it was necessary to go to GR. We did have to show ID and my Apple Wallet.
