Dollywood is defiinitely Not Disney. In some ways much better, and in some ways not. It is built into the side of the hills and takes every bit of advantage of the terrain. The staff are genuinely happy to see you (in a way that even Disney CMs are sometimes not). The park is spotless, the food is country-good, and surprisingly affordable.
They have a coaster lineup that is both eclectic and fantastic fun; for my money one of the better collections anywhere. Their coal-fired steam train is a lovely throwback, and does a bit of a climb into the hills which is AFAIK unique. They've been willing to experiment over the years ride-wise, and that's usually served them well though every once in a while they put something in that does not last long.
In my opinion, their live-E is, pound for pound, the equal of (and in some ways better than) any one Disney park. They are not nearly as glossy and (over-)produced, but the musc/vocal quality is definitely there. Dreamland Drive-In might have been my favorite theme park show, and while I'm sad to see it go, I'm looking forward to seeing its replacement. They do Christmas up right. (Note: They do Christmas. They do not do the winter holidays, and they are not shy about that. That might rub some folks the wrong way, and they are thisclose to being over the top even for me, but still.)
In any event, if you've never been, it is worth a visit. The waterpark is only so so, but the theme park? Great stuff.
