DVC Cash Discount Question

Ok, I've got a reservation at SSR (my first) for Sun - Fri nights (checkout Sat morning) and I wanted to convert the Friday night from points to cash. I called DVC and they said I could pay cash for Friday night but they don't have "any discounts" available at this time.

I thought DVC members got a 25% discount off rack rates at DVC resorts if a room was available for cash purchase? What's going on here?

The only cash discount comes from members points that have been used for other purposes or are in DVC inventory. Since it's a new resort, there are not many of those points yet. My guess is that that's what your problem is. When you are within 60 days of your arrival date, call the regular 407 number to ask about SSR rooms for a discount rate. Also, if you have an AP, these rooms might be available for AP rates. The amount of rooms that DVC has at their control right now isn't much, until more people buy in, and that's when Disney has to release more rooms into the DVC inventory.

Availability of the member discount is not guaranteed. I doubt we will see a lot of member discounts for SSR. It is new and everyone seems to want to stay there.

You can only get the discount if it is available for your time frame.

For example, there was no member discount available for this May at VB but there was a member discount available for October.

hmmm so Disney can "rent" rooms but not offer the DVC 25% discount unless the room is from inventory that a member has "sold" (used outside the DVC program)?

That's a distinction that I don't think they present very clearly. Every pitch I got was that DVC members get a 25% discount if rooms were available for cash.

A two bedroom is going for $479 for a single Friday night. 25% is no chump change.....

Actually, I think even when they have rooms from member exchanges they don't always offer the discount. If they can rent it for full price, why give a discount? As for what one was told, if it's not in writing, it didn't happen. Just the rules of timeshare sales.

if a two bedroom is $479 for a friday, i would grab that fri so fast.

25% discount is not always available on rooms and you have to pay taxes on the amount wether you get a discount or not.

i reserved the wlv for christmas fri and sat on cash basis, at the time i booked there was a cash discount, for a studio holiday season $325 plus tax hold with a cc and charge the day you check in

i just called last week for a studio for new years eve, room was available for cash no discount $425 plus tax, i passed on it

i just reserved a 2 bedroom for jan. at the bcv for cash, no discount $775, but not guarantee because prices change at the beginning of a new year. i booked because then i can convert the cash to points, im just short a few points and when i get them from another dvc member i will change that 2 bedroom to points.

sometimes it is better to get a code or an ap discount and move to another room .

last aug. i had gotten a managers special $179 at the yc, went to check in room was not available for some reason i didnt understand, wdw switch me to the bcv in a 2 bedroom for my stay, yahoo:teeth: , im sure that wont happen again.

you could book it on cash, (since ms doesnt charge your cc right away) and keep calling to check for the discount, if you get a better rate thru something else, you have up to 5 days to your arrival to cancel.:sunny:

Actually, if you reserve a room thru MS on cash, don't you have to cancel 31 days in advance?? I'm not sure of that, but it seems to me that booking thru MS had more restrictions than booking thru CRO. Does anyone have info on that??

No, the cancellation period for cash reservations through MS (with or without the 25% member discount) is 5 days notification or the credit card is billed. I have two confirmations for VB bookings (one with the discount, one without) and the notation on them is "CANCELLATION MUST BE MADE MORE THAN 5 DAYS BEFORE CHK-IN" (caps in the original, I'm not shouting).

The reservation process is much more generous than CRO or the WDTC, both of which require advance deposits (one night for CRO? and a deposit followed by full payment for WDTC? I don't know anymore, since we always stay DVC at BWV and usually book our VB add-ons through MS since we combine points and cash for these stays).
