I saw a "headline" on the member website that the "DVC Fishing Excursion Returns"....so I checked it out since we were planning on doing this in October. My daughter and I love to fish for big bass and we were planning to take our friends along (who have never fished!) for the "competition". Apparently, the excursion has returned with some changes.

The previous version departed out of the Contemporary marina and included a "breakfast" of pastries and juice at 9:30am with the fishing starting at 10am. There were also (2) prizes awarded, one for the most total fish caught and one for the largest. The cost was $70 per person.

Here is the description of the current, "DVC Fishing Excursion" and what is included:
  • A boat
  • A fishing guide
  • All the fishing gear you’ll need
  • A snack bag that includes bottled water
It departs from the Wilderness Lodge, there are no longer prizes offered and there is no pre-trip "breakfast"....but, yes, the price is still $70/person.

We were planning to do this on our "off" day which happens to be the day we are going to MNSSHP in the evening. We are doing a split-stay and this falls on the day we are switching rooms so we thought it would be a fun way to kill a few hours (do some fishing, grab lunch at Geyser Point or Steakhouse 71) before heading to our second resort to check in and change before the party. This experience just feels a bit lackluster compared to what the previous version described. My family has taken the "regular" fishing trip twice and we enjoyed it, but both times, it was a private boat and just our group.

If anyone experiences this new version (it starts June 23), I would love some feedback. I am very skeptical about booking it if we cannot get our party of 6 on a single boat. If we have to split up, it will defeat the purpose, so there is at least one person that would stay back since she doesn't want to fish anyways (she just wants to go on the boat!). On the other hand, I would also be a bit disappointed if they try to cram more than 6 people on to one boat. I'm also wondering about the "feel"...do they do anything to make it a "member" experience? Or is it just a regular fishing trip? I'm really big into the "extras" that make you feel a little special on vacation. I can bass fish on my local lake for a lot less than $70/person so I want to feel like this is something a little more special. (It already is...It's at WDW!!)

Would like to know too. We enjoy fishing excursions at Disney. This sounds like a great time.
