so not sure if this is worth a call but the week my kids college is on spring break march 11-18th our pirate pass renewed in may 22. i did not know that random week was blacked out....so pissed do you think its worth a call and asking for some pixey dust for and upgrade has anyone been lucky??? it would save me so much money to pay for the upgrade over some park tickets.

LOL, haven't heard of that happening in a long time. I guess you could call and try.

It's not exactly random: wide swaths of FL and TX have that week as their K-12 spring break, and the parks are BUSY that week.

(My daugther is in grad school and has this week as her spring break as well.)

AFAIK, they have only been allowing annual pass upgrades at renewal time. But worth a call. Maybe you will get lucky. :)

I've honestly never understood the rationale of this 'rule." I don't see what the downside is for Disney. If blackout days have already passed that you weren't able to go and you missed, and you pay the difference to prevent the blackout dates for the remainder of the pass's life, where does Disney lose? You're paying (if it were implemented) the difference between the two to upgrade. It's not like you can't buy whichever one you want at purchase time and there are individual caps on each type. At least not that we have ever really seen.

This rule started around the time they suspended the sale of APs. Prior to that it was allowed.

My guess is that the "no upgrades except at renewal" rule is part of the strategy to limit the number of APs sold and their ability to predict the number of AP guests with access to the parks on any particular day. As you know, Disney apparently has data that shows the "mix" of guests that provides the most revenue.

Right… otherwise locals could just upgrade Pixies to Increds the same day they bought the Pixies. That would defeat the purpose of only selling Pixies.

Locals aren't allowed to buy Increds right now so they shouldn't be allowed to upgrade to them. That one's easy. As DVC members, we are (only) allowed to buy Sorcerer and Increde so we should be allowed.

Not sure I follow you here. FL res have the same rules on increds as DVC. No new passes, but can renew. The only rule that’s different is residents can purchase a new pixie.

Then they should be allowed to upgrade as well. I didn't know that. Again, there's no loss to Disney. Only to the upgrader who had blocked days that they paid for after the prior pass couldn't be used. There is absolutely no reason this can't be done. It's just like adding PH to a 7 day MYW ticket on day 5. You pay for all 7 days of PH. You just have 2 more days to use it.
