DVC and Dining Plan....

Why are people using DVC points not allowed to use the dining plan????? Doesn't seem to make much sense..

We're not purchasing a package. Many DVC members have APs or PAPs. We already have our lodging. All that's left is the dining. And we already have kitchens.

I have heard that they are looking at something for DVC members. But if you have an AP or PAP, you can get the Disney Dining Experience card for $50.

You can only add the dining plan to a MYW package. You can't add it to a room only rate, an AP rate, DVC points or any other non-package stay. I have an AP and bought the DDE card. I don't think we would do a large sitdown dinner everyday to make it worth it. With a DVC 1 bedroom, we eat breakfast in the room and combine lunch/dinner out, have a snack later in the room.

Not all DVCers use the kitchen, though. I love having a refrigerator for Diet Cokes and cheese and crackers, but I wouldn't dream of cooking on vacation - at most, I'd keep some doughnuts handy for a quick breakfast!!! I'd love to see some type of DVC dining plan - but it doesn't seem as though it would benefit Disney in any way.

It's been reported that DVC is working on adding the Dining plan option to DVC stays. Several members have received this information when they emailed MS about the issue. One member reported that her guide said the option would be available beginning in 2006. Obvioulsy, this is not announced, confirmed information, so it should be taken with a "grain of salt." Since there are several "enhancements" planned for the DVC website and the DVC reservation system for around this time, I tend to believe it, though.

That said, I would not use a dining plan - it would just encourage me to overeat to get my money's worth. DDE is a better option for people like me.

Best wishes -

I agree w/you Carol, I love the DDE and I belive it is a much better option for me and my family as well. I wouldn't want to 'limit' myself to eating what is on the plan, which like you said, would encourage me to overeat. However, I think it will work out for some. 'If' we see it happen.

What exactly is on the dining plan? Isn't this the one snack, one counter service, one table service plan for $35.00/day? How does that encourage overeating? I usually have two table services meals per day, and agree that my DDE card saves me money, but it seems that the dining plan isn't that extravagant...

Liz,

I think it's b/c the dining plan includes an appetizer and desert with each sit down meal, although you dont have to eat it just b/c they offer it.

:)

I am a DVC member and would love to have the dining plan. The only meal we have in the unit is breakfast. This would be a great money saver for us.

I think they will end up doing something for us besides DDE for those of us with AP's, DVC, etc . I would like to try the Dining Plan this year so I am not going to renew my AP. I would at least like the option of it.
