duty free adult bevs

we are cruising in sep with friends and question came up about buying alcohol on board and consuming it on cruise. i thought this was allowed, but one friend said that it wasn't. does anyone know the answer?

I believe your friend is right. But if you buy it at any of the ports, you can consume it onboard.

Yes if it is purchased on board, they will save it and deliever it the nite before you leave. Any 'beverages' you purchase at any of the ports does not have the same rule. Any bottle opened can not be brought back to the U.S. so just remember you need to finish any open bottles or you will have to dump them. We found it better you bring our own bottles with us. Disney is the only one that will allow you to "BYOB". Depending on which cruise you may have to wait a couple of days to purchase your adult beverage at a port. They will let you know how much liquor you can bring back.

I recall reading somewhere that the price of bottled liquor on the ship is actually less expensive than in port. Either way, is the price of bottled liquor considerably less than the liquor stores in the states?

jerseyjanie- just for comparison Bacardi 1.75 ltr was 11.00, bottle of Johnnie Walker blue label 126.00 (no tax). I pay 192.00 here at cheapest place I've found. Mark

We found the opposite....we found prices to be cheaper in port than on the ship...even with the ship specials...this was both on the Eastern and WEstern itineraries.

each adult is allowed 1 litre duty free plus 1 litre if made in the bahamas. you can purchase as much as you want but you have to declare it to US Customs on board the ship on the morning you debark. simple process, and they are very liberal with the additional duty you may have to pay. we purchased 5 bottles between 3 adults and were not charged any duty. two litres of Absolut vodka for a total of 16 dollars. what a bargain.
