Going to do the tour this weekend and have a few questions for DVCer's that bought direct from Disney. I'm still firmly on the side of resale but if I can wrangle enough perks out of Disney then who knows.

What kind of incentives can I expect? Has anybody asked for more and gotten them?

What about extra points?I have noticed that some have come away with
2008 and 2009 points.

And what are these developer points I've been reading about? How do they come into play?

I bought direct at the very end of August. My use year is Feb. and I was given 2009 pts also.
I did not try and ask for any other perks.
I will tell you that the process alone was worth it to me. The ease of everything. I was tired of searching and searching resales only to find most contracts were stripped, not right use year etc. Also the closing costs were much higher. In some cases, NO deal with resale by the time I factored everything in. (AKV) I could not be happier with my decision. No regrets. Disney direct for me was positive and the better option. IN some cases though(older resorts, and if you can find a contract with the right UY and banked pts) resale is great. But, In my case, I did not find this ideal situation. And when a "good one" came they were always gone. Too much hassle and let down.
Another perk of direct>> you have your pts Right away basically and it is so fast.

Perks are not negotiable. You get what is currently being offered and that does change all the time.

Buying resale verses direct for me is a matter of money. Compare the true cost and go with the best deal.

I just did a tour with my husband last weekend. There were no deals but the lower point incentive at BLT, and getting 2009 points. I specifically asked if there were any referral promos, gift card promos or developer points. Nothing. I did get a $100.00 gift card for the tour. My husband and I decided to go resale. We wanted SSR and our guide even suggested that for us, resale was the best way to go. Just had an offer accepted and now the long wait for ROFR.

You'll probably get more perks pre-purchase to hook you in than you will actually get as a member.

For taking the tour, we received VIP Fastpasses, ice cream, and a tote bag (containing our closing documents - LOL). However, if you are wanting DVC to negotiate with you, that isn't going to happen. The price and incentives are fixed, and are non-negotiable, except if you are buying at a resort that has 2008/2009 points available (but that option is available to everyone too if the points are available). The best you can do is educate yourself before you take the tour so you know can make an informed decision, not one made on emotion. A good website (in addition to The DIS) is dvcnews.com which lists the current incentives for all properties, as well as a slew of other information. Good luck! :goodvibes

does the term, SOL, mean anything to you......if you're looking for perks, you
ll find out quickly.....we were happy just to get a nice place to stay; and have been for 14 years..good luck:cool1:
