You know when you forget something you KNOW YOU KNOW, and it's just hidden in your head, how do you figure out what it is?

Today, I had an Art History test and I couldn't remember two things:

Who painted The Raft of Medusa
The style of The Burghers of Calais.

The first, I figured out by looking at the picture and looking at different parts in the painting. I know that's not practical, but it worked. I looked around, and saw a man's torso. The man who painted the Raft of Medusa's name was Gericault. It rhymed xD

As for the style, I sat there for 20 minutes thinking. I tried going through the alphabet. And then I just kind of let my mind roam. Then I listened to the song inside my head, which was Breaking Dishes (Rihanna). The 'I'm gonna find a man tonight' part was in my head. So I took man, and made mannerism out of it. It was DEFINITELY WRONG, the answer was Early Modern, but it was worth a shot.. even if I was off by like 300 years.

I skip the question and do the rest.
Then I go back and just stare at the paper.
Then daydream for awhile until it's almost the end of our test then I look back down and the answer pops into my head...
Sometimes.
Others I have no clue but when I get my test back and it has the answer I'm always saying "Oh! Duh, how could've I forgotton that. That's what it was!"

XD I DO THAT ALL THE TIME!!

Like whenever i need to remember to spell mneumonic i always remember "M before N in the alphabet" XD

OMG! I hate when that happens! But usually I skip it then it usually pops into my head with the stupidest thinking behind it so then I know it. lol

Like yesterday, in gym, I had a tennis test. Yes our gym teacher gives us tests. :headache: Anyways, I couldn't figure out what zero meant so after I did everything else I was thinking about the kid I like/d and I was like wow I loved that shirt on him yesterday then was like OMG! 0=love! Good thinking eh?

I usually write down a completely wrong answer, circle the question, and then go back to it.
Then at the end of the test, the answer HOPEFULLY just magically hits me.

But generally I can't think of it and I just leave the wrong answer.

haha.
i don't have to worry about that anymore. :woohoo:
all my tests are open book now,so if i forget something i just look it up in the book.

but i do remember that when i was in school.
if its multiple choice,i remember something i learned in PSSA prep.
the answer is almost always A or C.
rarely is it B or D.
if it's short answer, then im screwed.

I hate that too. Or if like your doing a multiple choice and you know 2 are wrong, but deciding between the other 2...oiy, that always gets me.

Essays and short answers I'm always better at b/c chances are the partial answer is in the test.

I like short answers. Because as long as we put some thought into it we get partial credit! Like each is worth say 3 points. If we get it wrong but have a good thought into it, we get at least a point. :)

for me, its either i know it or i dont. most of the time, ill lightly pencil in my best guess and continue with the rest of the test. by the time i reach the end, either ive forgotten all about the question (and my guess is better than nothing) or ive remembered the answer because ive been subconciously thinking it through.

well if i cant think of something i look around the room to make sure the teacher isnt watching and look in the book :thumbsup2...jk jk jk
no usually ill circle it and skip it and than when i finish i go back through the test to see what i skipped and more than likely another question has hinted at what the right answer might be so i just usually take my best guess from that

I usually jot down anthing I remember next to the question (like the starting letter of the forgotten word, time period, related word ect...) then I circle the number and move on. I try not to dwell on one question. At the end of the test I read my short notes and it almost always jogs my memory, and I write the right answer.

A. Skip the question.
B. Return to it, and think hard about it.
- When did I learn it?
- Visualize the lesson.
C. Use instinct to find the right answer.

Oh, that happens to me all the time; I hate it! I'll circle the number, and then finish the rest of the test. Then I'll sit there and stare at the paper. And when I get it back after putting the most random thing I could think of, I feel like an idiot. A big one.

I know exactly what you mean! Like we had a test on cells. One of the questions was "What is jelly like substance in the cell." I sat there for 10 minutes trying to remember and then I put some random answer. Afterwards I remembered that it was cytoplasm! HOW COULD I FORGET CYTOPLASM!

Cytoplasm is the devil.
Because it always makes me think chloroplast, even if I know very well that chloroplast is a part of a vegetable cell.
It 's me going over and over like this:
'it's CHLOROPLAST. Wait.. no. that's only in a vegetable cell.'

Ditto! I'm like "GAH!"
