Durham Residents - AMC closing & opening under new name

Not sure if anyone knows about this, but when the Whitby AMC theatre closes tonight - they will be closed until 6pm tomorrow and reopen under the name "Empire Theatres".

I stumbled upon this trying to figure out what movies are playing for Friday. Nothing listed on their website and the movie phone # does not answer. The above is what Guest Services told me when I phoned their #.

Unfortunately the lady could not tell me if the only $6 before noon would continue or not. She said they are receiving their new policy training tomorrow. I hope that is not discontinued!! It was a great way for the whole family to see movies for 1/2 the price it costs at Cineplex.

Empire Theatres is a totally different company from AMC and so it looks like your theatre has been sold outright. They currently, and for years now, have what we call "Tight Tuesdays" with all tickets $6.50 all day Tuesday.

I went to see Brave with my dd there on the 22nd (June) and was told they had been bought out by Empire Theatres by the girl at the ticket booth. We had AMC gift certificates and were told we had 6 months to use them.
