This is our 1st cruise. I was thinking about doing this adventure in Cozumel. 2 adults, 2 kids. Any reviews or comments?

Thanks in advance

Which company are you using?
We used Cozumel Cruise Excursions and had a great time. We went all over the island. We went to the top of a lighthouse, went snokeling, saw crocodiles, saw some ruins, had lunch (included), shopped, and visited a tequila place that told the history and how it was made. It was a private tour so we had the option to change things if we wanted but we just kept the itinerary he suggested. He also had a cooler of beer and water for us.
I felt like we really got to see and do a lot.
Oh, and the snorkeling is at a private resort and you enter from the shore. There are chairs and a pool there as well. I did not snorkel (I am not great at it) but just waded out a bit and saw a lot of fish in the waist high, clear water. My friend who did snorkel said the guide was great and pointed out all kinds of interesting sea life.

The one I was looking at is thru Disney

  • Journey all the way around Cozumel Island in a customized dune buggy convertible! Drive by the town of San Miguel where locals live and pass the tourist filled hotel district to the picture-perfect natural terrain of the eastern coast. Our guides will show you the diverse regions and exotic beauty of Cozumel.
  • After an approximately 10-minute drive, arrive at your first destination for an approximately 60-minute snorkel experience. Our PADI certified guides will provide snorkeling gear, safety tips and instruction before leading you out to colorful tropical fish and a delightful array of sea-life.
  • Depart the beach and feel the wind through your hair as you drive approximately 50 minutes along the coastal road between the tropical jungle and the breathtaking blues of the Caribbean.
  • Arrive at your second destination for some fun in the sun and a beachside snack of beef and chicken fajitas, empanadas, fried chicken tacos, nachos with guacamole and chips and salsa. Relax under the shade of a palm tree and swim in the crystal clear waters on this approximately 75-minute beach break. Volleyball, showers, beach blankets and umbrellas, and tables and chairs are included in this excursion.
  • Hop back into your buggy and complete your circle around the island before arriving back at the pier.
Since I will be driving, I don't think they will have a cooler of beer... lol

We did a similar one a couple weeks ago that used Polaris ATVs instead of dune buggies. It was a great excursion -- except for the mosquitos. We'd probably do it again, but this time we would bring plenty of bug repellant to put on over our sunblock.

We booked this exact Disney excursion on our first cruise in 2013 and really enjoyed it. The snorkeling and beach stops were very nice, we had a very good lunch on the beach on the south east side of the island and made a stop at the Pee Pee Station on the drive back across the island. The dune buggies are well worn VW based buggies but drove fine and were definitely fun. We had zero bugs on our tour. I'd book it again.

I would also recommend ponchos - we were on the Disney Jeep excursion and when the island experienced a downpour we were dry (jeep has a top) - and the folks in the dune buggies driving by were SOAKED!!!

I will keep that in mind. Thanks

So you stay as a group the whole time, correct?

If you choose this type of tour, do it through the cruise line. They pre-screen their tour operators to make sure the vehicles are mechanically sound (not always the case with independent operators), and Disney knows you're on a tour so if there is a mechanical or traffic issue, they will wait for you to get back.

Yes - it's done follow the leader style. There are guides in dune buggies in front and following up the rear. Our family of 3 was in one dune buggy. Families larger than 4 are split up and couples may be asked to double up.
