Duke Rape Case Debacle

Have you heard the latest about this Duke "rape" case?

The exotic dancer who has accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape reportedly told the second dancer at the party to "put marks on me" — after the alleged attack.

Kim Roberts tells ABC that the alleged rape victim was "talking crazy" and was clearly impaired as they drove home from the party. Roberts says as she tried to push the woman out of her car — she said, "Go ahead, put marks on me. That's what I want. Go ahead."

Meanwhile, Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong admits he has never talked to the alleged victim about what happened that night. When asked why, Nifong said, "we're not at that stage yet." The three players have denied all the charges.

What are your thoughts? As a family member of an actual rape victim, this case disgusts me. It's reverse discrimination and I hope the "victim" is thrown in jail. These guys' potentially have their lives ruined now. They made an idiotic decision by having this party, no doubt.

Personally I believe it's a case of a stripper not getting "tipped" what she wanted and now she's black-balling these guys to teach them a lesson.

I live in NC and I personally think the only reason it hasn't been thrown out yet is because the DA is up for re-election next week. I expect to see the whole thing dropped in a few weeks.

I've been following this one from the beginning. DA Nifong should be thrown out of office and disbarred.

If I were the parent of one of the boys, I would be very disappointed in their behavior, but I would fight like heck to get him cleared. I would also make sure he gave some thought about the kind of consequences you can end up with when you act like a moron. I don't believe a rape took place. I think the lacrosse coach was a scapegoat, BUT that he also had clearly lost control of his team's behavior -- can you imagine Coach K tolerating such nonsense? I also don't believe either of the strippers is well acquainted with the truth.

This case makes me so angry. Talk about setting women back - and I am referring to the women involved in the case. The claims are completely unsubstantiated by just about everything - dna, witness accounts, bruising, physical signs - and these men are still being charged with their names released. All this does is makes it more difficult for the next woman, who actually was assaulted, to make her case. How sad. I agree with the pp - the accuser should be brought up on charges.

The only problem I see with that is that their names/faces being made public is sometimes what brings revelant information forward that would otherwise never be known. (ie, someone saw that person on that night doing something, but didn't realize that info was important until seeing the on the news) LOL, did that make any sense?

One of the accused boys lives in my area. He freely admits that the party was wrong, but denies emphatically that the young woman was attacked.

Duke has said that if the boys are cleared they will be allowed to rejoin the team, but the Coach lost his job over this!! How does he get his life back???

This whole thing has disgusted me for months... One of the boys is actually seen on surveillance camera's at an ATM across town for Heaven's sake, how could he have been there??

Regardless of all that, am I now to believe the DA has never actually spoken with the victim??? HUH? He went all over the airwaves CONVINCED there was an incident & he never even spoke with her?? For some reason this surprises me.

It's too bad he's immune from being charged with a crime himself, his conduct has been nothing short of criminal....

They never do and that is just the sad reality of this case... One of the boys was supposed to have graduated and taken a job on Wall Street... that all changed when he was ejected from school, so now he is sitting home waiting for this to play out... Can you imagine if the parents did have the money to pay the lawyers and bail? Where would their kid be right now? Jail..... It's just shocking....

its a shame that nifong can't be sued for misconduct and wrongful prosecution. this kind of reckless indictment could make paupers out of most families who have no choice but to provide an excellent defense for their sons. it is my understanding however that the acusers got the opportunity to purruse the entire yeam and pick out the 3 wealthiest so as to be in good shape for her civil suit. nifong and his 'ac cuser' should pay all legal fees and then damages.

Several weeks ago I was at a Downtown festival here in Durham. And who should walk in but Nifong. I so wanted to say something to him but I kept my mouth shut. I did feel an uncontrollable sneer on my face.

I don't know enough about the case to pass judgement on anyone except that this kind of party has always been disgusting to me. Strippers, sex for money, misogenistic young men thinking it was all just in fun. They are all learning a huge and unfortunate lesson. Another teaching opportunity for parents of girls and boys. Would you want your daughter dating one of the young men who WAS in attendance right now? What would you think of your boyfriend if he had attended this party? and on and on about strippers/get an education/choose your friends wisely.
