Duke Energy building solar facility at Walt Disney World

Five MW is a large facility so they may benefit from economies of scales. My guess would be $0.060-0.075/kWh.
Sounds pretty inexpensive. Hope it works out.

I took a quick look at a map of the property and don't see any obvious 20 acre pad for this at the intersection of World Drive and Epcot Center Drive so I'm guessing they will have to do some clearing of trees there.

It's really impossible to guess what the price per kWh might be. With Disney acting as the landlord and leasing the facility out to Duke, it really could be a sweetheart deal.

Seems that this could be - as much - a business/social purpose move - as it is an energy move?

No doubt there is some amount of social purpose in this as well. I would think that RCID had to negotiate a pretty good deal with Duke to make the decision palatable (financially) to RCID's residents.

That would be a cool idea. It would no doubt fit the Epcot theme also if it was done well.

A huge solar sculpture keeping the cars cooler.

I was thinking on this while I was in the parks yesterday, They really should think about incorporating the solar panels into the parking lots. They are soon going to start the MK parking expansion and there lots at Epcot that are only used for special events. I think they could start in those area and if they decide it works for them they could rotate around the lots.

I'd love it if they put the panels over some of the parking lots. It would generate electricity AND provide shade for the cars underneath. :car:
I think this would be awesome too. Alternatively (or inclusively) they could do the same with the roads http://www.solarroadways.com/intro.shtml which could also have advantages, as they become "Smart" roads too and can "Change" according to needs of the current situation.

Maybe Disney could convince Duke to also re-imagine Ellen's Energy Adventure.

Really great idea. It's trendy and hip, and lots of people are intrigued by the idea of installing solar panels on their house or whatever.

Even if it's just a sales job by Duke, I would still be happy to see the ride updated with a new script, new jokes, and so on.
