Due to cold weather -35 no school Monday and Tuesday

We are south of Chicago. School has already been called off for 2 days. Luckily for us our kids are old enough to stay home by themselves. We have also stayed in most of the weekend, accept for winter ball on Saturday and church. I told DD I was dropping them off at door she could live coat in car. Said no and wore her white columbia coat over her long dress.

They haven't called Tuesday yet for us, but I know they will. I think it's a good thing. Frozen sprinkler head caused the fire alarm at school to sound on a 2 degree day and all the kids were stuck outside, no coats - some of them in there PE clothes, etc. Too many things can go wrong in the extreme cold.

Bigger bummer is we've lost about 2K in wages so far in January because of the weather. I'm tired of it. I really hope this is the last of it.

I half expect our district to close tomorrow too, though I know at this point it'll be a last minute call and the powers that be are likely hoping for better weather than is forecast because we're already bumping up against our snow day cushion with 6-8 weeks of winter still ahead. Fortunately DH hasn't lost much work time because of the weather, just two days, but I'm getting sick and tired of frozen pipes and dead batteries and other unexpected little weather-related emergencies chip-chip-chipping away at our savings. And I don't even want to think about what our next power bills will look like.

I think we will have school on Monday but I bet we will be called off on Tuesday since we have a Wind Chill Warning. Our school district has already extended the school year by two days to make up for "snow" days. I can't believe we live in WI and our school district didn't allot for any snow days - they used to, but didn't this year for some reason! Crazy!!

I'm in the Chicago suburbs and school was called for us as well. Luckily I work for a church/school and I am out as well to stay with the kids. DH isn't so lucky, off to work for him tomorrow.

I'm further south, in central Illinois, and ours is called off for tomorrow also. Wouldn't surprise me if Tuesday was as well. I've heard Amtrak is suspending some Illinois routes tomorrow.

I'm also further down in Central Illinois! We've been called off for tomorrow and told to make preparations if needed for Tuesday but they won't make an official call until tomorrow. We ran out of allotted days and have also extended our school year.. Now well be going into our towns local festival which everyone was trying to avoid

Our school just announced 2 days. Our snow days are built in the last 2 days that the teachers have to be there. So instead of the teachers packing and cleaning up the rooms the kids will be helping.

Is it suppose to be windy during the day tomorrow? I am suppose to take the dog to the vet and it is 15 miles of country roads.

we are in Dc suburbs. School started back 1/2--we came back from FL to not miss 2 days of school--guess what, no school on Friday 1/3 b/c of snow--could've stayed in Fla 4 more days!
Then last week MLK Day off, then guess what--snow and no school tues-thurs and fri was 2 hr delay--then guess what, Mon is teacher workday! Gotta love it--and we don't even live in a super cold weather area! We have 3.6 hrs left of snow days and then we have to go longer to school. We already go until 6/18.
Luckily, recently my work implemented telework and I can log in and actually do as much at home as at work--I just have to pay for DD17 to take younger kids to lunch, movie, etc. Kids are loving it and DD17 got most of her term paper done!

I expect a 2 hr delay. We had delays all last week and it was only a 4 day week. We've used all of our snow days, but still have 3 online days left. DD is a Senior and their graduation is May 25 so they won't have to make up any days unless they do it during Spring Break.

We're in Canada and it has to be pretty extreme here to cancel school. The buses have been cancelled two days this year but the schools were open. The one day I felt that was a horrible decision because that meant the teachers had to go in, and the roads were awful.
However, if it goes below -15 (celcius) the kids are kept in for recess. I don't think they've gone out for recess in well over a week and it doesn't look like they will be this week either. Even my dog who tries to swim in icy puddles is no fool and he won't stay out for longer than it takes to pee and run back in.
It's been the coldest winter I can remember and it doesn't look like it's getting better any time soon. We went to Disney just before Christmas and boy do I wish I had planned the trip for February. It would have been nice to have something to escape this cold. Then again, with all of the flight cancellations who knows how that would have gone.

So far we just have a 2 hour delay for in the morning. Right now the wind is really blowing. Our town is out of rock salt, so they aren't getting salted any more.

DD is a Senior and right now they are 2 days past her graduation day for make-up days and they were told they have to make them up and will be changing graduation day. Grrrrr

You must be in my county. We were one of the few counties that went to school on Friday - with a 2 hour delay. Today is off for teacher workday and, since I have an elementary student, half day off tomorrow, too. I love snow but not the cold wind and I'm ready for spring now.

In my neck of the woods (Central VA) we got 1" of snow last week (other parts of the area got a little more but I didn't even get enough to cover my grass) which caused school to be cancelled for 4 days. I was fortunate that my ex-husband's mom is in town and could watch our children. But it stunk being out of routine.

My friend and I laugh at this. She was originally from WI and moved to VA and can't believe how much they call off school for so very little snow!! We get 6-8 inches and still go.....maybe a two hour delay, but that would be it.

Where are you in Canada? Here in Winnipeg, the kids go out for recess until -28-lol! The city divisions won't run buses at -35 C (-45 with the windchill), but the schools don't close. The only time they close the schools is if the transit buses won't run AND emergency vehicles won't go. They haven't cancelled school since 1994.

I teach in a rural school division, where 95% of our population is bused. If it is a cold day (same temps as above), classes are cancelled, but we still have to go in. If it is a storm day (no travel advisories) then staff is to stay home as well.

The district that one of my DD's teaches in had 2 days off shortly after school started due to extreme heat. Temps were well over 100 and their elementary buildings are not air conditioned. They don't have to make those up since the middle and high schools still had class. We had 2 days off the first of Jan and again today. There probably won't be school tomorrow either since the temps are supposed to be lower than they are today.

With wind chill, the temps are projected to be -40F.

I am going in Feb. And when it is bitterly cold in the North
it is cold in FL. I have been watching Accuweather and daytime highs keep going between high 60's very low 70's. It is better than freezing, but I have to pack warmer clothing. My dh has a conference for a week and usually it is in April. A few years ago it was in Feb. every asked to move it back to April
I wonder why they changed it again.

Many schools are closed around here both today and tomorrow. Our district is, of course, one of a handful that didn't close.

Tomorrow, regardless of what the admin decides, my kids will be staying home. Windchills are supposed to be -50. No one needs to be out in that.
