Debating whether it is worth it to fly out of Detroit! Anyone fly with spirit air? What hotels near airport offer park'n fly?

We found it very worth it to fly out of detroit. We saved a ton of money! I am currently price watching spirit and Northwest out of Detroit for the spring. My SIL flew Spirit and had no troubles, she would fly with them again.
We stayed at the Doubletree near the airport, got a great deal through our TA for 99 a night that included free parking and shuttle to and from the airport. I will definitely stay there again. :goodvibes

We're flying with Spirit out of DTW this October. The air fare, direct flights, return from MCO was $511.00 Canadian for four of us. You might not be aware that Spirit charges for all checked bags. I believe that it is $10 per bag for the first 2 bags per passenger return.

Our flight out isn't until 17:45 so we are driving directly to DTW and using the Big Blue Deck parking.

In the past we have also flown out of Pittsburgh using South West.

Buffalo is the best option if you can find the flights. Also look at Cleveland & Rochester.

We are flying with Spirit for the first time next month out of DTW. As far as the checked baggage charges, you can pay $5 per checked bag one way online before you get to the airport otherwise it is $10 per bag at the airport checkin counter.

Plus, I just got a couple of "Park, sleep, fly" airport/hotel deals recently through the mail.

La Quinta offers 8 days free parking with $99USD/night + tax. Phone is 734-641-9006. Deal expires 12/31/2007

Four Points Sheraton also offers 8 days free parking with $129USD/night + tax. Call 734-729-9000. Also expires 12/31/2007

I believe both hotels are near the Qwik Park on Merriman (888-844-park). We have used Qwik Park and it was VERY good. Pickup was immediate, the van was following us as we went to park on the lot even at the early hour of 5am. Very short ride to the terminal. They have 24 hour service to all the terminals.

I agree with all of this information!

We have done the Spirit Airlines/La Quinta/Qwik Park scenario several times and LOVE it . . . sooooo easy and affordable!!

I will do it again in a heartbeat!!!

We always use Spirit out of detroit and use a park n fly hotel. A previous post mentionned the Doubletree which was always my favorite hotel, but it's been sold and is now called the Metropolitan. It's still a really nice & clean hotel but we had so many little problems there, that I don't think we'll be back.

In July we stayed at the Ramada with park & fly rate of $89.99. They had a huge cont. breakfast in the am (waffles, oatmeal, cereal, eggs, sausage, etc.) and the service in the AM was great. The girl who checked us in was clueless, but other staff made up for it. The room was ok, nothing special, but we already booked it again for Jan 2008.

just a thought if you are looking at DTW you might also want to look into
Flint, I know that Airtran flys direct to orlando and you don't have to deal with DTW traffic
