Hey, all...going to stay at SSR over the holidays this year, and my only concern is the lack of a TS restaurant there. Now, within walking distance is the whole of DTD and PI...and I've never eaten anywhere there, except for RainForest Cafe and Fultons, both of which lacked in one thing or another. Has anyone a favorite DTD eatery that they would recommend? We are me, my DH, DD17, DS15, and DM71.:earsgirl: :earsboy: princess: pirate:

We really enjoyed Planet Hollywood when we had a late lunch there last year. It was a little loud though.
My stepsister enjoyed Cap'n Jacks when she was there in December. Don't really know anything about it, and she'll eat anything, but she "highly recommends it".
I've heard good reviews of Earl of Sandwich on here, if you're looking for a quick meal.

I have a whole week to eat my way through...keep the opinions coming! How's Wolfgang Puck?

We ate at Cptn Jacks a long time ago and had a meal so disappointing we never went back.

We had a really bad experience at Portabello Yacht Club, I'm sure we'll go back someday, I think it was just a bad night.

We've had a few really good meals at Bongo's, some great service and some so-so service there though.

Had a great lunch at Wolfgang Pucks.

Had a so-so meal with bordering on curt srevice and so-so overpriced food at Planet Hollywood.

I think the best place to eat is at Wolfgang Puck Cafe (not the express next door that is more of a counter service place). We have eaten here about 6 times along with some of his other restaurants in other parts of the country and have never had a bad meal

DW and I both like Cap'n Jacks and Earl of Sandwich. We REALLY like House of Blues. The only one I'd stay away from for sure is Bongo's. We've tried it twice and neither experience was good. I love Cuban but no there.

We love Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Bongo's, both on our list of favorite places to eat.

I've eaten at Wolfgang Pucks...it was kinda expensive, but the food was good. I had a great dessert. I have also eaten at Bongos. The food was good there too. I had this fruit platter, which was yummy.

I enjoyed Wolfgang Puck's (upstairs) the most and I've tried almost all of them. It is pricey but I felt it was worth it the last time we went. Try a cantaloupe martini - they are delish! I felt rushed at the Portabello Yacht Club last time and I think the server had too many tables (forgot things, was getting mixed up, etc). Bongo's was just not that good as far as service and cuisine. Nothing horrendous - just not that good.

Rainforest is our favorite. We were very disappointed in Planet Hollywood (previous times we had liked it). We also eat at McD's sometimes as well.

For quick service at DTD you cannot beat Earl of Sandwich, excellent quality and (cheap) prices. I think the sandwiches are all around $5. I also enjoy Wolfgang Puck express for quick food, good pizza and sandwiches, also, reasonably priced.

For sit down, I really like Wolfgang Puck Cafe (not to be confused with WP Express or Upstairs). This is more of a casual sit-down restaurant. Big menu with items like salads, pastas, pizza, fish, steaks and even sushi. Thought it was fairly reasonably priced for WDW standards too.

Although they are not on my "must see" places (largely because I have each right in my own home area) but I haven't had a bad meal at Planet Hollywood, House of Blues or Rainforest Cafe. You can get decent food at each place with a big enough menu to accomodate everyone.

Unfortunately, the only DTD restaurant that we liked was Portobella (and, of course, Ghiardelli). We tried HOB and Planet Hollywood. IMHO, both were overpriced and mediocre food. I have not tried the Orlando Rainforest, but my opinion of the one in Chicago is the same as the other two, mediocre food that costs too much.

Now, please don't get the impression that I am not willing to spend money on good food. We really enjoy several of the higher cost Disney restaurants, including California Grill and Yachtsman Steakhouse. You could also try Olivia's at OKW, which is next to SSR. I think it would be a better choice than most DTD restaurants.

Many of the other resorts have excellent places to eat. If transportation is an issue, I would suggest going to the Transportation board for ways to get around.

We let the kids get their McD's fix then went to Bongo's. We ordered them ice cream while we had our dinners and it was an all around pleasant and tasty experience. The sun was going down and we ate at a table outside. I usually hate eating outside because I'm not a "bug" person, but there wasn't so much as a fly in sight when we ate there. Mmmmm

The great thing about SSR is its proximity to DTD, which means access to all the busses going directly to other resorts, so I don't think that's going to be too big a problem. I have some faves at other resorts that I will be definitely going to...Boma, Calif. Grille, Kona Cafe, to mention a couple. But I was hoping that on those "lay low" days when planning is thrown to the winds and the resort looks like the best place to hang, that we could all go out and have a decent meal in a nice restaurant. We'll have a 2-BR suite complete with kitchen in the resort, so small lunches we can do ourselves, but it would be nice to get a little dresed up and walk across the way to a really good sit-down restaurant. I know House of Blues isn't fancy, but I heard good things about it on other sites, so that was one idea. I'm depending on you other Dis-ers for even better ones, and all your wonderful advice and opinions. :grouphug:

I agree about Rainforest. I've tried it a few times in Chicago, and am sure it's not very different from those at WDW (AK and DTD). I think the food is overpriced, and I'm lucky if it comes out hot. I think the service is bad. Though I love the atmosphere, I think that is what you're really paying for. The food is not worth it, in my opinion. It just disappoints.

DH and I did like Bongos though. Yummy!
