Hey everyone,

Im about to finalise my planning for my American 2012 trip and we are up to finalising out dates for our Orlando week,:cool1: and we are planning to stay at the DTD Hilton, and just wanted to hear people's general thoughts about this hotel?

How close is it to the other parks? and is it easy to cacth a taxi from the Hilton to MK? as this will probably be the only time we will use a taxi service to get to a park.

Another question can we walk over to DTD and catch a bus to one of the parks instead of waiting at the Hilton? is it faster or do they use the same bus?

Thanks in advance

Shannon

The buses at DTD only go to hotels, not parks. The buses at the Hilton run every 30 minutes, so you're better off taking them usually.

We're also going to be staying at DTD Hilton in a few weeks for a school competition. We've never stayed at a DTD hotel and just like the OP I'm really interested in any info on Hilton or how to make a stay at a DTD easy getting to parks, etc.

Thanks!

We didn't stay at the Hilton but at one of the other DTD hotels. We used the hotel shuttle the first day but from then on used our own vehicle (we drove). The hotel shuttles leave the hotel (and the parks) every 30 minutes. But...one bus/shuttle serves 3 hotels, being the last stop the way there was quick and easy, way back? a lot longer.
They are not the same shuttles as used by Disney transport from DTD (like a PP stated, can only use those to get to hotels from DTD).
I would think a taxi would be easy enough to get (I seem to remember reading somewhere it was something like $15-$25??)
If you need to be in the parks for an ADR, plan extra time to get there since you may have to make multiple stops (one bus covers two parks--epcot and mk, ak and HS).

Could we take the DTD bus to the Contemporary and catch the monorail?

You're not supposed to, but I'm sure it happens. I've heard conflicting stories that people boarding those buses are sometimes asked for their room keys. I guess you could always say you have reservation at Chef Mickey's or some such, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I believe the Hilton has their own shuttle service, and is the only hotel that doesn't share. If that's the case then you would be better off just using their service.

The DTD Hilton is a great hotel! We stay here at least once a year! The hotel is wonderful, the staff is hospitable, they have a Disney Store in the lobby, a great pool and poolside diner and the transportation is good. You can catch the Hilton's own private shutte every 30 minutes or you can get a taxi...the bellman will be happy to secure one for you. Have a great trip!:thumbsup2
