Wednesday was our day at Animal Kingdom. I had only been to this park once before also, so I was excited to go back. We had breakfast reservations at Donald's Breakfastasaurus. Compared to Crystal Palace, I loved the atmosphere at Donald's better, but I liked the food (translated...NO fried french toast here
) at Crystal Palace better.
We ate our breakfast and then the plan was to beeline to Expedition Everest for fast passes. Craig had been telling me about this attraction and was SO excited to get on it. It wasn't officially open yet, but he'd read that it was in soft opening and hoped that we'd be able to get on. He came back and we had fun walking around and seeing the animals and then headed on the Safari. Domenic liked this, but it was hard to get him to see some of the Animals since by the time I'd point it out and he'd actually see it, we were past them. But he did well on it and liked the animals he did see.
We left this and headed to Everest since it was time for our fast passes. Tiff stayed behind with Domenic this time and Craig and I headed in. I had no idea what to expect, as I'd not read a think about it. I knew Craig had read up on it, but didn't know he knew some specifics of the ride
We get on in very little time and all I can say is the picture we bought after that ride says it all. OMG. That ride was fantastic!!! We had a blast! We headed back out to find Tiff and found she and Domenic enjoying a Mickey bar. Thankfully she'd taken off his white Mickey Mouse shirt first, lol, as he was covered in chocolate
Cleaned him up and left him with Craig while Tiff and I headed on. I decided not to tell her what I'd just experienced and let her have the same first impression I'd had. She loved it! We got off and went to find Craig and Domenic walking around. Since we'd baby swapped and had caught on to how it worked, we had that 3rd fastpass and he went back on solo while Tiff and I headed to Dinoland to let Domenic play. He fell asleep on the way, though, so we found a nice shaded bench and hung out waiting for Craig.
He caught up with us after his second trip on Everest and we went to Dinosaur to get fastpasses for later. We walked around a bit and decided to go get some lunch. Domenic woke up (or we woke him, I don't really remember) and we ate and then headed back to The Boneyard so Domenic could play. He loved this playground as much as the Honey I Shrunk the Kids one, especially the water....again! He was SOAKED. He'd already changed once since he'd gotten soaked right after the safari at some water spot. This time he was drenched. But he was having so much fun
We left there and headed to Dinosaur, where we took turns riding. When Tiff and Craig went on together this time, Domenic and I stayed in the shaded area and he colored with another little girl who was kind enough to share
Left there and headed to see It's Tough to be a Bug. He was very impatient in line, but happy once we got inside. He liked the special glasses again (and since we'd seen Mickey's Philharmagic at MK the day before, he was figuring out now how they worked) and liked the show, except for the part with Hopper. That part scared him a little. Overall, though, he enjoyed the show and the effects that went with it. Of course, he didn't want to give up the glasses afterwards and started to get crabby, but we offered him some popcorn and the promise of a parade and that did the trick. One thing we learned on this trip......when all else fails, offer popcorn. It worked (almost) every time
We headed to find a spot for the parade and found an open one.....right in the sun. It was hot, but we didn't care. We had a great curbside seat. I had never seen the parade at AK and must say it was fantastic. We'd already seen Spectro, and will watch the parade at MK the next day, but AK was definitely my favorite.
After the parade we decided to head out. Our original plan had been to have dinner in Morocco at Epcot that night and then watch Illuminations again. But since we'd stayed at AK later than we really thought we would, and since making our dinner ressie meant pretty much going straight to Epcot from there, we decided to cancel and head back to OKW and then go to MK for Wishes again. We were very hot and thought a dip in the pool would do us good, not to mention Domenic had been 1/2 awake the night we got there and first saw Wishes, so since it was our last night there, we decided to go back there.
We swam at OKW and showered and headed over to MK. It was getting late and had been a long day. Auntie Tiff was leaving first thing in the morning, before Domenic even got up, to head back to CA (we had an evening flight and were planning to head to MK for the day) so she told Domenic that she'd buy him whatever he wanted when we walked into MK. No big deal. She looked over and saw the glow necklaces and figured since we were there mainly to see the fireworks, that would be a fun gift. She made the mistake of bringing Domenic with her to buy it
Never pair a doting aunt with dotee when she's off to buy said child a gift
I look up to see them walking towards us with this light-up, extending sword thing. She has a look of pure guilt and Domenic is all grins. I asked what happened to the necklace and she said Domenic saw that and wanted it instead. She said she told him "Your mommy is going to kill us," at which point he looked at the CM and said "Mommy's gonna kill us!" and had them
I don't care that he has it, but I know that we're in a crowded place and that he's tired and not prone to listening at this point. I tell him he can have it while he's in the stroller but he cannot extend it. Yeah. You know where this is going. Extended it goes, as he swings it from side to side. I take it, push it back down to its smallest length and tell him he can't do it. Out it goes again. Again I take it back and tell him to stop. We do this another time and now I'm frustrated and getting very irritable. He's being a 3 year old and isn't understanding WHY he can't do this. Craig stops at a stand and asks for tape so we can keep it from extending while he's swinging it in the stroller. Got it
Next up....meltdown. Domenic has a FIT because there is tape on his sword. By this time, I'm talking through clenched teeth, I'm sad that our last night is starting out like this, I feel bad for my sister, because I know she feels badly that she let him get this over the more practical present. She's feeling bad for him that he's getting in trouble over her gift. It's not a pretty sight.
It's getting late and we need to find some supper and find a spot for Wishes. We head over to fantasyland to get some pizza at Pinnochio's. Yep. You guessed it. There's Dumbo. "I wanna go on Dumbo!" we hear. The line is way too long and we know if we go on Dumbo we're not eating OR seeing Wishes. Somehow in the chaos, Tiff gets him to go on the Carousel and Craig and I go in to order supper. He comes in and has calmed down while he and Tiffy "chased" Dumbo on the horsies. Gotta love Aunts sometimes (except when they buy extending laser light swords in crowded parks
) We have a quick supper and head off to see Wishes. Because it's so late we're not able to get to Main Street to watch again, but we grab a spot to the right of the Castle and sit down to watch from there. Domenic's excited to see Tink again and the night has been salvaged. It's a nice way to end what's been a great visit and vacation with my sister
