On Friday my DS aged 12 swam his first ever 1500m race - in laymans terms that 60 Lengths of a 25m pool, the longest distance that men swim in competitions. I would have been so proud of him even if he only finished the race, he was understandably very nervous (before this the longest distance he had raced is 400m - 16 lengths), not only did he finish, he won Gold Medal in the 12 year old and under category, but he swam faster than the qualifying time for the British Youth National Championship, so we are off to Nationals. This is such an achievement, which any other parents of swimmers will appreciate, the qualification times are really fast, and many just miss them. I can't describe how proud I am of him. So now 6 days before we fly to Orlando I have to drive him from London to Sheffield to compete, I know that he will be against stiff competition, and that he is very unlikely to get a medal there, but to compete in such an event will boost his confidence and be such a great experience for him. I just wanted to share this with others. Thank you
