My DS16 came to me last week, his bow broke as he was shooting. The strings popped. :scared1: Ok not a problem since hunting season is in a month we have time to get it repaired. I tell him to bring it to Cabela's or Bass Pro to get it fixed. He brings it to a guy in the neighborhood that his friends at school use. I ask before you bring it how much will it cost? $50.00 bucks mom, max!:headache:
So last night, he gets a call that the bow is ready. I again ask how much? $50.00 bucks mom, max!:headache: I send him with a blank check just to be sure taxes were covered! $110.00 and the bow is still broken!:mad: I told him he is paying me back and I don't care if he can't bow hunt this season! So now I am feeling guilty for making him pay me back since it is still broken. Am I nuts? :sad2:

Yes you are nuts. He could have worked to fix that bow since he had a month until hunting season. Cut lawns, etc.

He changed the strings and the sights but some piece of metal bent and now we are going to have to bring it to Cabela's or Bass Pro anyway! I was so upset at him that I just quit listening to him explain what was still broken. Not that I know anything about bows. :confused3

Not nutz but he gotcha on this one. happens to us all. Next time his toys break he has to work to get them fixed. Even with a busy schedule you can assign him chores around the house and assign dollar amounts to them.

For ex my 16 year old doesn't have time to work an outside job. I had him wash all the windows inside and out on weekends to earn cash. stuff like that.

He does work cutting 3 neighbors lawns, but all 3 are little old ladies on fixed incomes so sometimes he does not get paid. He really is a great kid but has no money sense.

Then he finds a way to pay to get it fixed. If he doesn't, then he doesn't get to bow hunt this season. If he hadn't made the decision he did then he would already have a functional bow. Instead, he wasted the money and now it will cost even more over all.

Why did the guy get paid if the bow is still broken? Was there something besides just the strings that was wrong with it?

He's got money sense, it's called you, so as long as you will fit the bill, he doesn't have to worry about money.

No offense to you OP. but at 16, I was pretty much responsible for me. If I went to my DF and asked for such and such amount and he asked where my money was from washing cars or babysitting, etc and I said I wasn't gettng paid all the time, he would be laughing at me and call me a push over.
