DS getting his wisdom teeth out Friday, how long to recover

DS had all four of his removed July 1st. He went to an oral surgeon and he was out for the removal. He's 17.

He was a little swollen, but not bad. He was not black and blue. He couldn't take the Prednisone that they wanted him to take for swelling. It made him throw up. He kept ice on his jaws for several days and then they had him switch to heat. He did take a round of antibiotic.

He took the pain medicine for the first couple of days. Then we switched to just at night and Advil during the day. A week later (when we went to a family reunion) I carried Advil, but he wasn't taking it unless he hurt his jaw.

They did tell us that he wasn't to bend or strain for a week, to protect the blood clots and avoid dry sockets. He also had to stay away from sodas, straws, mouthwash and swimming pools (due to germs that might get in his mouth and go to the bone!) for the week following his surgery.

After the week of resting, he went right back to swim practice. If your son has any questions for my son, have him send me a PM. I know DS was pretty nervous, but it went quite well. He says it was a great way to catch up on some sleep. :teeth:
