DS and his fiancee were honored with an ornament shower today.

He is youth director at a very large church. His girls and their mothers and the boys' mothers had them an ornament tea today. Said that they knew it was this summer before they were getting married but wanted them to have some ornaments for their first tree. I would say they received over 70 ornaments, plus a tree skirt and a big container to hold all the ornaments. One little older lady came though and brought a Black and Decker Under the Counter Can Opener. I don't think she realized that it was an ornament shower! Oh well at least it was something practical!! I thought it was such a very nice thing to do!

I had a Christmas shower the summer of our wedding. It was so nice that first holiday season to already have a tree full of happy memories.

What a lovely idea!!

I received a Christmas tree, lights and homemade ceramic ornaments from my beloved Nana as a "shower gift" (in the summer as well). She told me that she always remembered the first Christmas she and my Grandpa had in Canada just after they were married. They were so poor, they didn't have the money for gifts or decorations and knowing how expensive all that was, she wanted to give Jim and I a good start. She passed away 21 years ago and I don't have the tree, but I think of her every Christmas when I put up the things she made for me.

That is wonderful. I usually give a homemade tree skirt and 4 stockings for a wedding or shower gift. I remember that first year and just how expensive getting ready for Christmas was, not to count the gift buying.
