I have a shy 9 yr old DS and I made PS for the Prime Time cafe during our visit in April. Since then I have read several reviews from people who would never go back.

Should I go or just make another PS and see what kind of mood he is in that evening.

All responses are very welcome

Thanks so much

Mine is one of the negative reports, so guess what my vote is?? :)

Seriously, re the theme, it's a toss up - he might be in a good mood and enjoy it, he might be in a good mood but still too shy and get embarassed, he might be in a bad mood and they'd leave him alone, or he might be in a bad mood and hate it. IMO, the food is not good enough to chance it, unless the rest of your group is just adamant about trying it. (YMMV and others will big time disagree with me, I'm sure.)

For my money, the Brown Derby is hands down the best food at the Studios, with Mama Melrose's as an acceptable alternative if you feel the BD is too fancy for your kids.

I agree w/ the previous poster that the Brown Derby is a marvelous restaurant. I love the ambience and food and go there every time I visit WDW, but I don't know if a young child would love it as much. Not much going on there to entertain the children, but if your son is shy, then it might be perfect for him. My kids are too young to eat off the menu yet, but I hear all the Disney restaurants have good selections for kids, so you'll probably be just fine there.

I didn't care for the 50's that much, but I took my PIL (in their 70's) and they consider that their favorite restaurant. They loved the meatloaf and other foods and my grumpy FIL really enjoyed the server and she made his trip. Our server knew who we wanted to torment and I think they are all sensitive as to who can take it and who can't. If my FIL was in his usual bad mood, she probably would have backed off. But he was having a good day and she really got him good. If you want to keep your PS and try it out (it could be quite enjoyable for him if he is in the right mood), then I would talk to the server and explain your dilemma and I am sure he/she will act accordingly. The server can also focus his/her attention, not on your DS, but on your husband or grandpa or someone else joining you, and I'm sure your DS will get a kick out of seeing his Dad being scolded for wearing a hat, etc. He won't be in the limelight, but can enjoy the antics. That's if your DH isn't shy as well. Ha ha. Hope this helps.

Both of my kids are shy and this is one of their favorite places to eat. However the server usually picks on me. ;) I have never seen the servers pick on kids if they seemed shy. Adults are fair game!

I have to respectfully disagree with the two other posters about the food. It is delicious! If you like home cooking this is the place to go. And the s'mores are to die for!

My DS 11 is also shy and he loves PT. Our waitress was funny and laid back but not embarrassing to anyone. She made DS (I mean JR.) set the table. She reminded him to finish his fries. We thought the food was really good and a break from other things we had had that week. The desert menu comes on a view master and the kids make your own sundee is a huge hit with my DS.
