Just curious...if your shoes get soaked do they take forever to dry out in the humidity? Is it really tacky to set them outside the room to dry? We are planning to use plastic bags as best we can to protect them and bring a spare pair...but I hate putting on wet shoes so just wondering.

Well, your shoes shouldn't really get soaked, unless maybe it happens on Kali. I don't remember ever coming home with we shoes, so I'm guessing they dry at about the same speed they normally do. If you do have to dry some shoes at night, I would put them on the air conditioner or close to it. It would be the fastest way to dry them.

This happened to me a couple years ago. The last 4 days of that trip it never stopped raining hard but I am one of those throw on the poncho and go types. Within 2 days all my shoes were soaked and using a mini hair dryer worked but was really annoying.
Here is what I built- I bought 2 12volt mini computer cooling fans like the ones on processor chips. Glued them into 1.5" PVC plumbing 90 degree elbows and added a 5 inch piece of straight pipe capped with many holes. A wall mounted 12Volt powersupply and I have a overnight shoes dryer now that makes no noise. Last May it got a workout and came through fine keeping my next days pair dry and maybe a little fresher.
I am not a sandle person so it was find a way to dry them out or go squish squish. Now I have added a pair of Merrell ventilators that dry out really fast on their own.

If your shoes/sneakers are leather and they get wet, they may shrink a little when drying so pack them with washcloths when drying to help them keep their form.
(just out of college, I sold shoes & sneakers)

Or

One year, when it was very rainy, we packed our water shoes (aka aqua socks) in our backpacks and whenever it rained we put them on and put our sneakers inour waterproof backpack.

When we were there 2 years ago, we ran into a rainstorm that hit quick and hard - we all got soaked to the bone. Luckily I had brought an extra pair of sneakers so that wasn't a problem.

The wet ones took forever to dry so we ended up putting them in the hotel dryer for a few minutes - just enough to get the majority of moisture out of them - worked really well but VERY NOISY - lol!!!

Thanks for the tips all...RussH FOR REAL?You should market your invention to WDW resorts and just kick back and relax! Very cool...glad it works for you. I think I'll be using the A/C route....I'm lazy, what can I say?I was just thinking of getting wet on the rides...forgot about the rain(duh) You'd think I'd know better! Thanks again and have a cool day!

I wear canvass Ryka walking shoes and always take 2 pair with me. When one pair has gotten soaked from rides or rain, I just toss them in the dryer at the resort along with some towels. It wouldn't work for leather shoes, but the canvass ones are lighter anyway.

RussH: I am in awe of your invention (are you an engineer?) and will buy stock when the company you create to market this invention goes public!

What is the model name of your Ryka's? I've been looking for canvas ones.

Thanks

Hi there!

If our shoes get wet, we leave them outside of the hotel room next to our door during the day when the sun is shining. They seem to dry out quickly. Don't leave them out over night or they will never dry.

I read a good suggestion on the boards: spray Scotchguard on your shoes before they become wet. That's a really good idea - it will help keep them dryer longer.

Zoo Keeper: I don't know the model name. I've worn Rykas for years and love them. I bought the canvass walking shoes through QVC (www.qvc.com search Ryka) just a couple of months ago. I adore them! They come in white, tan and blue. They are much lighter than the leather Rykas. I ended up buying 2 pairs. Give them a try!

Oh my gosh---Disney & QVC, what could be better!

I'm logging on right now,
Thanks Joyce!

Zoo Keeper: I hope you were able to order. I checked, too, and they now have purple ones! That is very tempting! :)
