Dry Dog Nose?

My puppy's nose is not wet, cold or moist. A friend came over to visit and was playing with her when he noticed this and told me that there might be something wrong with her because dog's noses should be wet/moist. She doesn't seam sick at all, eats and plays, happy, etc. Should I be concerned?

He also said that it would make a difference if her water bowl was a metal dish vs. a plastic dish. Anyone ever heard of this?

Our dog was throwing up a few weeks ago and her nose was dry. Took her to the vet, she was fine. I was told the throwing up was probably a dog food allergy, switched food and the throwing up stopped. Was also told that a dry nose does not indicate illness or fever.

As far as the bowl, I use metal. I don't know if the things I've heard in the past are true but I have been told that plastic bowls can turn there nose a different color. I've also heard that plastic bowls can lead to cancer in dogs. I don't know if any of this is true (probably not) but I have always used stainless steel bowls - she can't chew these up either.

Some dogs have dry noses, some have wet noses. If she is happy and playing she is not sick. It's an old wives' tale that you can tell if a dog is sick if their nose is dry and hot.

Plastic vs. metal will not effect the wetness of her nose, but metal or ceramic bowls are the best for water. Chemicals can come out of the plastic and into the water and can cause hair loss and allergic reactions. Food in plastic is not really a concern because it's not in contact with the bowl as long- however if you free-feed you should be using metal or ceramic.

Both of my dogs usually have dry noses. They are very healthy! We live in a climate with little or no humidity so everything is dry! The only time they have "wet" noses if they are having temporary allergy issues. (Their eyes will tear more, too).

my dog's nose (choc lab) is always dry. I think its b/c she likes to sleep under blankets but who knows.
