DH has a large dry cleaning bill each week. He doesn't always have to wear a suit, frequently he wears khakis and shirt and a sport coat. I have tried before to wash and iron his shirts and suitable pants, but I hate it, can barely find the time to do it and they don't look as crisp as they do from the dry cleaners, and he is very particular- but when I think of the $ we give to the dry cleaners each month plus it is a pain to drop them off , pick them up (far away, limited hours, carrying them with a 3 year old) ....saw a recommendation online for getting a steamer to have the clothes look fresh- Since they cost less than we pay each month I was considering purchasing. Anyone have one and how does it work? Any other tips for a dry cleaned look to the clothes?

I don't have the answer, but wanna share the story of my friend.

She had to iron her husbands shirts each week one weekend she decided it was enough.... so she took her ironing board out the back door, leaned it on something and shot that bugger. She never ironed his shirts again....

DH buys the wrinkle free shirts and khakis. If you take them out of the dryer promptly, they look just as nice, if not nicer, than non-wrinkle free things taken to the dry cleaner. DH swears by Brooks Brothers as they last for years and years. (Not that I would iron his shirts or do his dry cleaning anyway. . .but he's not going to waste that time either, LOL.)

LOL! Pretty sure my dh would have me taken away if I did that!

He has some wrinkle free stuff, but I (and esp. dh) haven't found it to work well enough to get away without the ironing. I have to handle the dry cleaning/ ironing and pretty much everything else here. DH works long hours and commutes 1 and a half to 2 hours each way. And I guess I can't really complain about the ironing since he wants us to use the dry cleaners, I just would rather not spend the money!

They will not come out looking crisp with a steamer, that look come from very hot machines. Also a lot of dry cleaners have pick-up and delivery service at no extra charge.

I wonder if he passes a more affordable place on his commute. That is what I do. Sounds like your choices are limited. I frequent mine often enough that know my car and get my stuff pulled. There is also drive thru. Or he might could have them picked up delivered to work. Old place of work that was done a lot

Ah, that's what I thought... was hoping for a different answer though! Our dry cleaners doesn't pick up :(

That's a great idea I hadn't thought of... Think I'll try a mix of doing some at home and seeing if he can drop some off closer to work....Thanks!

We actually have a Singer steamer and Corby pant press...combine that with Dryell and it works pretty well and fairly quick. My DH actually does the steaming before he wears them and I just do the Dryell. :)
