It's not really common here.
I live in a province that's mostly surrounded by ocean, but people don't seem to well go drown in there.
They dont' drown in their pools either.
And I don't live really close to any lakes.
There has been some around me in Lake Erie. One of them was a guy that was going to be a senior this year at my school. He was on the football team and everything. It was really sad

A year ago my mom's friends granddaughter [4 years old] drown in a pool at a family BBQ. Nobody was watching her and she jumped in the deep end, next thing they know she's floating to the top and not breathing.
The last time I heard of someone drowning around here was when I was in sixth grade (4 years ago). There was a girl a year older than me and it was her step dad. I don't remember the exact story but he was a firefighter and basically he ended up being trapped under the ice (this was in winter) and he eventually drowned.
One of my biggest fears is being trapped under the ice, I'm really scared to go ice skating on the lake...
