Dropping first night of Ressie- does it change my AP rate?

So, we are DVC members and haven't stayed at regular WDW resort in years. But, with the PAP that we bought last year, my hubby suggested we go down for bonus trip and we are out of DVC points. We wanted to book Poly with AP rate for 6/30-7/5 in a standard room. There was no availability, but if we booked 6/29-7/5 there was a standard room with the AP rate. So, I booked that to get the room.
My question now is, can I drop the first night and keep the discounted portion for the rest of the ressie? It seems like such a round about way to get what we want, but if the computer will only give us those nights this way, I guess we will do it. I just know that other hotels will re-adjust the rate when you modify it if it changes the dates of a promotion. Anyone verify what Disney does? TIA!

Yes- you can do this. I have done this many times to get the AP discount to work for my dates. Just call back and change your dates- you will keep your AP rate. Now I always try to make the initial reservation for more days, because we usually add a day or so depending on flights and work schedules. It is easy to subtract nights but harder or not possible to add nights later.:)

As the pp stated, yes you can drop the night(s) you don't need and still keep the AP discount :). This happens a lot with the GP discounts, too; not sure why, but I have seen it many times. My guess is Disney is hoping you will book the longer stay and keep it.

Thanks for the responses! Thankful they will allow us to drop the 29th (if I can't convince hubby to keep that first night :rolleyes1 )!
