dropping DS to School in Manhattan ?? for New York City Residents

Hi, I meant to put Columbia University in header instead of Manhattan but it will not let me change it lol.

Hi, I will be dropping Ds to Columbia University next week and I am still searching for a hotel but that is my least worries right now.

I need help from fellow New Yorkers who can tell which is the best place close to Columbia University to get College Dorm stuff. We will not have a car so any information on best way and best place to go. Maybe a Walmart,target etc.

I am still looking for hotel deals on Manhattan and maybe will try to priceline.

There are two K-Marts in Manhattan that you can get to by subway. Also, Macy's will have dorm stuff (sheets, etc). You can also hit a Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Morningside Heights has a lot of smaller stores that will surely have dorm stuff on sale (they know their audience), but may cost a few dollars more.

take the subway down to the bed, bath and beyond retail area in Chelsea (I think the store is on 18th and 6th). They have a number of retail places there that should get you most of what you need - BBB, Staples, Container Store, Best Buy - all within 2 blocks.

Then, take a cab back up to school with all the packages.

I suggest ordering some things online and having them delivered to the college mail room! Much easier than lugging them on the subway!!

Having just visited Bed, Bath and Beyond yesterday to buy a temporary chair, I can tell you that they do have some dorm stuff.

Manhattan does not have Walmart or Target, and the K-marts are so-so. There is a Target in Queens that you can reach by subway or bus (the cab would be too expensive.)

My advice would be to buy stuff online at Walmart and have it delivered to the dorm. It would be cheaper and easier than transporting stuff on public transportation.
