My sister in law mentioned last night that she is thinking of renting a winnebago to drive with my brother and their two little boys to WDW because they are afraid of plane and train crashes. They don't want to sleep in the winnebago, they just want to use it to let their boys have space for the 14 hour drive from MD. One question I have is, are people allowed to roam around in one while it is driving (and not be seated and buckled)?
Will they have trouble parking it places? Does that mean they won't have to stop for bathroom breaks? I have four children and my husband and I have always driven to WDW with them through the years in a van with a t.v. and have had hardly any behavior problems with the kids (actually it's me who has the hardest time sitting without stopping frequently). Does anyone know the cost of doing what she is talking about?

I had looked into this because it sounded like something fun to do. The price was about $1200.00 for one week, plus milage. They only give you a small amount of free miles and charge like 15 cents for each mile over. It was too much money for me, I wound up flying and staying at the asmo. It was cheaper than just the rental would have been.Check the camping board for more info

Thanks for your reply and info. I guess, depending on your family size, it could be the way to go.

Do you know about the seatbelt situation and using the bathroom while driving? Obviously, $1200+ is a lot to spend just to have your kids able to move and a travelling bathroom, but it is an interesting thought. ;)

Seatbelt laws do not apply to some vehicles such as taxis, limos, and busses. A motor home may fall into this catorgory. As far as I know you can use the bathroom while driving, it all goes into a storage tank.
