Driving to Walt Disney World

My family and I are going to take advantage of the New Jersey Teacher's Convention in November and take our kids out of school for a few days and drive to Walt Disney World. We are planning on leaving on Friday Nov. 2 in morning and getting through Washington D.C. before the morning rush hour. We have talked about stopping over-night at a local hotel off Route 95 and continuing our travels on Saturday Nov. 3 arriving at the Sheraton Vistana Resort in Orlando around checking in time which is 4:00 PM. Does anyone have any tips, comments or good ideas for us, as we have only taken an airplane in the past.
Any and all comments, tips or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I know someone mentioned decent hotels in the Savannah Georgia area.

A DVD player is almost a must. We travel with one and my kids are 17 & 19.

Oh yeah - tons of good hotels along I95. I can't think of any off hand, but yeah, like OHMARI said, try Savannah area. I'm travelling pretty far as well, and a DVD player is mandatory. How old are your kids?

Savannah is about 13 1/2 hours from NJ. we are from SOmerset Co and go to HIlton Head every summer. I think it's better to travel farther your first day since getting back in the car the second can be beastly. There are tons of hotels along 95. Try expedia or hotels.com if you want ressies before you go otherwise there are plenty of namebrand (value)motels along 95. As you drive past the exit for Hilton Head blow a kiss to the island for me and have a great time In the World

we are also taking advantage of the convention, and driving down. DW refusues to ever fly again. We are leaving Joisey on Saturday
Our family unit consists of DD8, and DS2.5
we had considered Savannah, but it is too far for the little guy. We backed down a bit to the end of NC
I was able to locate a large number of Hotels along 95 thru hotels.com
