Driving to other resorts for ADRs...

We've been doing this forever. A car is much quicker than the bus and it enables you to go to whatever restaurants you want without worrying about how much time it will take to get there and then go wherever you want to after dinner. Most times the guard asks for an id but not always. We've had guards just wave us through. We always stay on-site and have the parking pass on our window. Yes you get 3 hours and as someone else said if you valet you can stay as long as you want. 3 hours is plenty of time to eat and walk around if you want, shop, explore, etc. You will find that you save tons of time driving yourself.
