Driving to down town

Will be arriving at Hyatt MCO 2 days before our cruise and was thinking of renting a car and driving to Downtown Disney for something to do. Is there a fee for parking or can I even enter Downtown Disney without having tickets to the parks. Is there a better way of transportation to just visit the downtown area for a few hours. TIA for all your help.

DTD parking is free, and it's open to anyone at all. No tickets needed.

Be sure to take your patience with you. With the construction going on, traffic can be a real bear around DTD.

Check the Hyatt to see IF shuttle to downtown Disney. Doubtful but might be

We do this before every cruise. Its an easy drive, but can be heavy traffic right near downtown disney. No parking fees to worry about, and no you don't need tickets as its not a theme park.

I think there is a fee to park in the parking garage, but no fee if you park in the lots. Seems to be more parking available near the Cirque de Soleil end of DTD. Lots of things to see and lots of walking! Lots of shopping, lots of restaurants.

We did this about a month ago. We stayed at a hotel near MCO, rented a car and drove to DTD the day before our cruise. There is no fee for parking, including inside the parking garage. As people have said, construction makes patience a necessity when in the DTD area.

After DTD we went to Ripley Odditorium and ate dinner on International drive. Drove the rental to Cape Canveral, dropped it off and rode shuttle back to the port. After the cruise rented another car and took in Kenndy Space Center before flying out. We had an evening flight. Very convenient, added so much flexibility to out plans and turned out cheaper than using Disney transportation for three of us.
