This Friday morning we are leaving Vermont, how bad is I95 on a Friday and Saturday, this time of year.

We are debating taking I81 or I95 for our trip down south.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I'd take 87 and 287 down past NYC, and pick up 95/New Jersey Tpk. in Edison.
(It's easier to do than it looks like on the map :))

If you're not in a great hurry, you could pop off 287 in Bedminster and take 78 over to 81. (exit 21B, I think). From there, take a look at getting onto 83, and taking that past York, then picking up 695 to 95 at Baltimore. That should keep you out of the heaviest traffic.

This is our first time driving to Florida, the weather looks like it will be sunny the whole trip down.
Our start time leaving Vermont will be 5 AM on Friday. Using I95 we would be hitting DC around 2-3, which concerns me.
That said after reviewing suggestions we will be taking the longer way down. Which is I87 to I287,
I287 to I78, I78 to I81, I81 to I77, I77 to I26, I26 to I95.
On the way back we plan on taking I95 the whole way North, we will be leaving 8 AM on a Saturday, this way the Washington DC traffic will be on a Sunday late morning, which I am hoping won't be a problem.

I appreciate all your suggestions, Thank you!

Do whatever google maps says. It’s almost always the fastest way. It will reroute you if things change. It may put you in DC traffic but it’s still the fastest way. Otherwise take western routes around DC such as I-81 but that has its own issue But nat as congested as DC.

I use the Waze app. It takes traffic into consideration. I used to think my dh was nuts for wanting to use it, until I went against it when I thought it was nuts. I knew where I was going and sat in traffic forever. I now listen to to. I’ve gone some crazy routes, but always get there with limited traffic when possible.

Google Maps does that now, too. Google actually bought Waze a few years back. That said, Waze has more of a tendency to send you down back roads.

I alway obey The Waze or the Google.

I’m heading down again from eastern Long Island tomorrow. Going to head straight down 95, I think. It’ll be a haul!
