My husband told me I'm nuts, what do you guys think about this? We live in mid-wisconsin(north of madison about 45mins) and were considering driving down to WDW next dec has anyone done this? We usually fly however we have three kids who will be 7, 2, and 1 and the idea of getting around a crowded airport with a car seat and two small kids just doesn't seem like fun plus airfare prices for 5 people. I have done the maps and they say it takes about 21 to 23 hrs are these correct has anyone done this? It seems like there's only one big city to get around traffic wise so that should be ok. I thought we would leave at 3 after DD gets out of school and then drive all night while they are sleeping. Does this sound like a good plan?
Any tips or insight would be appreciated. Any help from anyone who has driven from anywhere in the midwest (it seems that we are the only ones from WI on the boards) or traveled with small children would be great :)
thanks,

Nelle

WELCOME! You are not the only one from WI, there are quite a few of us floating around here! We have done the drive two times from Milwaukee, about 22 hrs. straight through. The only thing I would caution you on if leaving at 3pm is hitting Chicago at rush hour (which is much longer than other cities). We prefer flying, but the drive isn't really all that bad.

Thanks castmbr Laura, its nice to know that I'm not the only Wi person out here.
The directions I got off freetrip.com have us going south to bloomington and then south east to Champaign, so we wouldn't have to travel around Chicago at all.

Anyone that has driven from the wisconsin area have suggestions?

We are planning on spending the first to nights at the AKL and not going to the parks to recover from the drive and also see the lodge and swim. Then we head over to our home BWV for the rest of the stay.

I have read about the TV/VCR combo for the car and will definately get that for the trip.

Any other suggestions or any other advise on different route to go?
thanks,

Nelle

There are many of us from Wisconsin on the Dis!

I have driven from Wisconsin (Sun Prairie) too many times to tell you! It usually takes about 22 hours to make the trip! The drive is not that bad. My dh did it this past spring with my 18 year old dd to check out colleges down there. They left in the evening and got there the next day with no problem. But I usually leave early in the morning and stop in the Atlanta area for the night. Definitely get a TV / VCR combo. It saved our lives in 95 with a two and five year old. Kept them intertained for hours! (The 17, 15 and 12 year old liked it too!) Bring lots of videos! If you want any more info, just personal message me.
