Hi we are driving to Orlando April 8th and looking for a cheap clean place to stay the night somewhere around Georgia? Any recommendations ? I would love to make the drive in one day but know it would be hard with 3 kids.

When we made the drive from MD in 2014 we stayed at Sleep Inn and Suites in Kingsland GA. It was cheap, clean and served free breakfast. Not sure if anything has changed since our visit.
It's right off the main highway.

My brother drives from Pittsburgh every year because he stays for 2-3 weeks and prefers to have a car with him. I know that he tends to stay in Holiday Inns. I'll have to ask where he stops on the way down and I'll get back to you with his recommendations.

Thanks let me know. We were thinking Georgia would be a good place to stop.

He just got back to me and he usually stops at the Hampton Inn in Columbia, SC because he leaves the 'Burgh later in the day instead of morning. The hotel has easy on/off access for the highway. This leaves him with more driving time the next morning, but he stays in Disney for so long that the additional time on the road on Day #2 of his trip is not a mitigating factor.

Oh, and he tends to stay using frequent guest points, so it's very cheap for him.

When we drive and stop, we usually run out of steam in SC. Hampton Inn at Florence or Columbia are our usual choices, Inexpensive, right of the I95 exit ramp, clean, and a free breakfast to boot.

So do you think we are safe to not book a reservation and just stop when we get tired. Is there a app or website you could recommend to find a place?

We drove from Hershey and stopped in Florence, SC. We stayed at a very nice Holiday Inn Express. Florence is a nice area right off of I95.

We have driven from Maryland several times. We typically get stuck with a lot of I-95 traffic if we leave after work and typically drive until we get tired. We like to use Priceline with the name your price tool to try and get cheap hotels. It is a bit of a risk, but we typically choose the 3 stars and above and have yet to be disappointed. We have stayed twice in Florence as it is right off the highway with several amenities like gas/food. We have stayed at Hotel Florence (surprisingly quaint B&B) and either the Days Inn or Quality Inn at that exit. The other area we like is exit 104 in Georgia (one of the first ones in GA) as it also has several hotels as well nice other amenities. We just never know what traffic is going to be like so like to leave our options open to get as far as we can versus stopping sooner/forcing ourselves to drive further based on making a reservation ahead of time. Greenville and Columbia, SC are other good option as well.

We drive from Cleveland and stop in Charlotte, NC each way at the holiday inn express in arrowood. It's about $100 for the night with free breakfast and an indoor pool. We've done this for 3 trips now and are really pleased.

We used to drive from Pittsburgh all the time as kids. We would usually leave around 8-9 am, make a few stops for lunch and breaks, and make it to Savannah, GA. The next day we would load up and get to WDW by lunch time.

Thanks for your suggestions hoping we make it to Savannah. Also thinking about bidding on Priceline.

I drive once a year and don't make any reservations ahead of time; I drive until I get tired. I've never had a problem getting a room in a chain hotel along the way. I've stayed in GA, SC, and FL. I prefer to stay within the Hilton brand for the points. Embassy Suites and Hampton Inn are both good.

Can you get a bargain price just showing up at a hotel? Or is there a app or something you get good last minute deals on. Has anyone tried Priceline last minute?

Hotel Tonight App is great for that. I've used it 3 or 4 times. It's not a blind bid - you know what Hotel you are booking ahead of time.

When we do road trips we always stop at the first rest stop after you enter s state and pick up a coupon book. The book is organized by town name and lists deals at various hotels that are along the major highways. Just figure out your route and see what hotels and deals are offered. Most offer AAA rates that are even better. Since this is spring break time I would get a reservation ahead of time. Once i get the coupon book I figure out where we want to end up for the night and call from the car. But I always check out the motel on trip advisor first to see what people say. I have Decided against many a motel because of reviews about bugs, bad breakfast, dirty rooms, etc. Atlanta can be really bad to get thru. So be careful about the timing when you hit Atlanta. Avoid 4 to 7 pm if you can or 8 to 10 am. That's just from recent experience.

We drive from Columbus. Leave around 4:30am and end up at Disney usually by 8pm. We do stop on the way home because we don't leave Disney until after lunch. We stop in Columbia, SC and stay at a Hampton Inn.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it. Look for the free discount hotel/motel books normally at rest stops, restaurants, gas stations etc along the way.
