Heading first from PA(along 95 mostly) to Universal.
From Universal to Disney.
And then back home to PA.

I know there have been others who have traveled this path.

Do I need a Sunpass ? Would it be of any value ? Have I read that you can actually purchase one along the way(should I want/need it) ? Thanks, in advance, for sharing your experience.

I have driven from Ohio to FL and from VA to FL many times and have never gotten a Sunpass. When you get do Orlando, there are enough ways around the city to get from Universal to WDW and around without ever getting on a toll road.

Coming from I-95 to I-4 and I-4 into Orlando, no tolls present

My personal option would be not to get a Sunpass.

I know we use our EZ Pass a fair amount here in PA(and occasionally in New Jersey). We've always flown to WDW in the past, so I had no frame of reference. Thanks for the insight !

We are in PA and while we don't drive, we do use the AutoTrain. We picked up a SunPass at a Walgreens a number of years ago and chose the transponder over the window sticker. It is easy to swap out our EZPass transponder w/ the SunPass transponder once we arrive in Florida, and then we don't have to worry about planning our routes around toll roads.

Having the transponder allows us to be flexible with which vehicle we use when traveling, including if we fly down and happen to rent a car (which we rarely do, but just in case). The window sticker only works w/ one vehicle and isn't designed to be removed.

I agree with drwadadli that you don't need a SunPass if you are focused on PA to Universal to WDW and back to PA. No SunPass tolls on the direct route of I-95 to I-4 to Orlando and Universal then further down I-4 to WDW.

If you were planning to drive around the area then having a SunPass would be helpful.

What is the toll road in FL? We'll be coming from PA also, but with a detour through Alabama.

There are a number of toll roads around Orlando. 528, 417, 429, and the Florida Turnpike come to mind. I can't speak to outside the Orlando area.

Coming down from Alabama you might find yourself on I-75 and then the Florida Turnpike. Goggle Maps does a good job highlighting toll road routes.

We drove from PA to Disney several years ago and did not need a sun pass. We took the auto train another time and did not need one then either.

If you're sticking to I95 and I4, there are no tolls of any kind (EZ-Pass, SunPass, PeachPass, etc.) once you get south of VA. A long time ago, there used to be a toll bridge in or around Jacksonville, but that toll was removed years ago.

As far as tolls in the Orlando area, I believe there are 2 tolling authorities. Check out www.sunpass.com and www.cfxway.com.
