Ok we will ve leaving in Oct after my son gets out of school so it would be arounf 3:30 in the afternoon (unless it's a half day which I think it may be)

My question is what would be the easiest route to take? We were thinking of staying in Valdosta, GA for at least one night (my husband will be dribing overnight the first night)

I though I94 to 75 was the route t take..but my dad mention 69 and the online sites are having me go to 95 at some point? I am so confused right now. I love online sites so I have turn by turn directions but I don't know if its the best route to take... (btw I used rand mcnally and yahoo maps..)

Any suggestions will be appreciated :)

We drive from extreme se MI I-75 all the way. Dave Hunter Along I-75 is an excellent resource. :thumbsup2

I-75 is a very busy interstate. If it were me, I'd probably take I-69 to Indy, then I-65 to Nashville, then I-24 to Atlanta and THEN pick-up I-75! I-95 is WAY out of the way, IMHO.

this is the route Mapquest gave me...lol

I also thought I-95 was way out of the way :confused3

This is probably what we will take (not I-95; all the other mumbo jumbo)

Thanks for your suggestions guys and gals :smooth:

Since you'll be leaving at 3:30 in the afternoon, I'd MUCH rather spend rush hour passing through Indianapolis than Detroit - so another reason to not take I-94 to I-75.

Per AAA, it looks like your quickest route is I-69 to I-65 to I-40 and then hook into I-75. Total estimated time is 19 hours, 20 minutes.

The other two routes are as follows:

I-69 to I-65 all the way to Dothan, Alabama where you pick up Hwy 231 and then I-10. I-10 hooks into I-75 in Florida. Total estimated time is 20 hours, 10 minutes.

I-69 to I-80/90 and hook into I-77. Take I-77 until you hook into I-95 in South Carolina. Total estimated time is 20 hours, 31 minutes.

We drive from Grand Rapids and hate the I-75 traffic, as well as the congestion and traffic around the Atlanta area. We have never taken the I-77/I-95 route, but we have taken the I-65 to I-10 route. MUCH less traffic and it seemed to be a nicer drive overall.

We plan on taking the Alabama route (I-65/I-10 route) in a few weeks and then depending on weather and how we're feeling at the end of our vacation, we may take the I-95/I-77 route home to see the Carolinas. Overall, its only approximately an hour extra driving time for a route other than I-75.

A good source for traveling I-75 is: www.i75exitguide.com. It has links for construction and tells you what is at each exit on I-75.
I just came back from a trip going thru Indi and you might want to look on-line at construction -- the area was a nightmare. You could take I-94 to I-23 to I-75. We drove Easter week and had absolutely no problems. It took us about 19.5 hours.

Be sure to take the new road Wester Way into Disney. It saves a lot of time!

Sorry - I don't have anything helpful to add, just wanted to say hi from Grand Rapids, MI! It's exciting to see others from SE MI on here!

Thanks again everyone. This is my first road trip of this magnitude, I drove to Colombus Ohio once but that is the farthest I've ever drove. My family didn't do road trips, ever. Honestly I've never been out of the tri-state area except the two times I've flown to Florda. I am so excited about driving but also nervous.

I agree mjhd its nice to see people from our neck of the woods. :wave2:
